Title: El liderazgo espiritual del Coro Musical del Gran Cabildo Indigenal de San Ignacio de Mojos Author: Franco Brusco ISBN: 978-9917-0-5528-0 Publisher: No publisher Publication date: 02 July 2025 Page count: 108 Format: paper Description: This book offers the reader a critical and documented analysis of the repertoire of the ‘Coro Musical’ of San Ignacio de Moxos. This organisation of the indigenous Mojeño Ignacio people represents one of the more than 40 organised groups belonging to the Gran Cabildo Indigenal, an indigenous government structure currently in force, founded in 1701 during the time of the Jesuit missions of Moxos. Based on ethnographic fieldwork carried out during the Ichapekene Piesta - the patron saint festival of the town of San Ignacio, declared an ‘Intangible Cultural Heritage of Humanity’ by UNESCO - and a study of the Moxos Musical Archive, which contains more than 7,000 musical scores preserved for centuries by the indigenous Mojeño Ignacio and Trinitario peoples, the relationship between the current repertoire of the Coro Musical and the historical manuscript scores is examined. The study reveals that the music of the Coro Musical is not only a Jesuit legacy, but a dynamic tradition that has survived and developed over time, maintaining a central role for Mojeño spirituality and identity. This book, one of the first to deal in depth with the repertoire of the Coro Musical, offers an engaging and detailed look at a unique indigenous musical culture, which remains the foundation of the community life, identity and historical memory of the Mojeño Ignaciano indigenous people.
