Request to remove unpublished books

Hello Librarians,

I am the author of the following books. I have recently unpublished them from all retail platforms, including Amazon KDP, and they are no longer for sale.

Could you please take the necessary action to remove these book records from Goodreads? If removal is not possible, please merge them into a single "unpublished" edition.

We cannot do that, out of print books should remain on Goodreads with correct filing so users can still rate them and shelve them.

Thank you for the quick reply and clarification. I understand the policy.

In that case, could you please merge all six of these editions into a single record and mark it as "Out of Print"? This would be the correct filing for these books as they are no longer available for sale.

Merging them into one edition is not possible.
As the author, you have the ability to set which edition of each book you would like to be the primary one that shows on your profile. Here are the steps.

For Kindle editions the cover can be updated if it has changed.

Thank you for your reply. I understand that merging editions is not possible and that I can set a default edition. However, this does not resolve my situation.

What I need is for these specific titles (listed below) to be unlinked from my Author Profile temporarily, so they do not appear on my public author page at all. The books can remain in the Goodreads database, but I kindly ask that they are hidden from my profile until further notice.

This request is very important for me at this time, and I would greatly appreciate your help.

We cannot do this, all books on Goodreads should be listed on the correct author profile.

Goodreads is a site for readers/collectors to rate and catalogue their books and is structured to allow that.

Dear Martin,

Thank you for your response. However, with all due respect, your statement that “all books on Goodreads should be listed on the correct author profile” is not consistent with copyright law or author rights.

As the sole author and copyright holder of my works, I have the legal right to control the distribution, listing, and public display of my books. Goodreads, or any third party, cannot keep my books on display without my authorization.

I want to make it very clear: I have not granted Goodreads the right to permanently list or maintain my works against my will. Keeping them visible despite my explicit request for removal constitutes unauthorized use of my intellectual property.

I kindly but firmly request that you escalate this matter to your legal or compliance department. Otherwise, I will have no choice but to pursue this through a formal copyright removal process.

I have read your last response carefully. While I acknowledge your clarification, I must point out that the tone and the absence of a simple courtesy greeting were unexpectedly abrupt.

If you review my own messages, and also those of your colleagues, you will notice that all of them begin with a proper greeting and end with a note of thanks — which is the standard in professional and literary correspondence. Such courtesy is not optional; it is the foundation of meaningful dialogue.

As an author and cultural contributor, I expect that communication be handled with the minimum respect such a position requires. Authors are not part of the “general public”; they are partners in the creation and dissemination of knowledge.

I will now proceed to contact the official support team to resolve this matter. I strongly advise that in the future, when engaging with writers and intellectuals, more respectful and professional forms of address be used.

You haven't been polite at all. You haven't even bothered to find out about Goodreads, or use it as intended. You've read one book (your own) and plan to read one more (your own.) If you spent a little time to learn what the site is about, you would already understand why we don't remove legitimate books from the catalogue. It is a core principle of the site.

After being told we won't remove books by multiple librarians, you threatened legal action.

You are not in a position to comment on anyone else's manners.

The bottom line is that there is no copyright or author's rights being violated because your book is not hosted on this site. It's a database of information about books.
Also, when using AI to write it's important to proofread.
Acting like you're better than everyone else will get you zero help in this group (and in life). Contacting support is how you should make all your requests from now on.
