So, in about a year I’ll be auditioning for ASFA (Alabama school of fine arts)
This is what is required:
ALABAMA SCHOOL OF FINE ARTS DEPARTMENT OF MUSIC LIVE, ON-CAMPUS AUDITION REQUIREMENTS VIOLIN UPPER DIVISION (for entry to Grade 9* and above) The audition is divided into three compulsory elements and one free-response element as follows: I. Compulsory Scales The applicant will execute the following scales and arpeggios (two or three octaves as able) in whole bows: G major, A major, C major, D major, G melodic minor, A melodic minor. All scales and arpeggios should be played from memory. II. Compulsory Solo Repertoire The applicant must play two contrasting pieces from Suzuki book 4 or higher. They will play all the scale requirements for upper division. Both selections must be played and one of them must be from memory. These selections need not be accompanied; however, if accompaniment is desired it is the responsibility of the applicant to provide her/his own accompanist. This music should be available from your local string instrument or sheet music dealer, or you may order on-line from (or another online source)
III. Compulsory Sight-Reading The applicant will be given 60 seconds to study and then perform a musical excerpt of commensurate difficulty. Free-Response The applicant may perform a prepared solo of her/his own choosing. The interview and audition committees reserve the right to dismiss immediately any applicant who has failed to prepare any of the compulsory elements.
Does anyone have and advice? Also, what songs would you recommend I play?
