The assumptions we made

All of the above is 20-20 hindsight: I fell for it all.
I've not read that many books of this genre and do wonder if the author treads new ground by feeding the lines that 'allow' us to make the assumptions. Personally, I think it's great. Even though I was unaware at the time, I so much enjoy how we are teased, tempted and kept from the history behind why the characters are where they are: the discussions that have been generated from the story are fantastic.

I'm going to read this again; too much, I think, sailed on by without me noticing.

The whopper is the assumption we are allowed to make about Sam. Because it is not made clear (yeah, I know, the clues are there) but it wasn't until Harry mentioned the person of all of our attention being in the embassy that I questioned my assumption.
Also, I the same card is played in book-two: the ministry man is not all he seems to be.
