Raeez (autodidact) | 38 comments Well , I am starting to read classics just because they proved themselves that they stood the wrath of time.

If you like to join , you can. We can read one book of your choice and one of mine. What say ?

May be this will be the first book : Candide by Voltaire.

message 2: by IShita (new)

IShita I'm in.

message 3: by IShita (new)

IShita Start tomorrow?

message 4: by Raeez (new)

Raeez (autodidact) | 38 comments Sorry for late reply.

Which book do u suggest to start with? Do you have anything in mind that you always skipped telling yourself: Aaj Nahi.. :D

message 5: by IShita (new)

IShita I am good with Candide. It's long been on my TBR. I read it first when I was in school, much undereducated for Voltaire then, I guess! I have a physical copy of it too. We can start tonight, if you're fine with that. I read the intro already :P

message 6: by IShita (new)

IShita Baaki if you ask my "Aaj nahi" wala list, to it'll to go on and on! I always plan on one book (or no book at all) but end up reading another. Curiosity gets the better of me. Or maybe I'm just gullible!

message 7: by Raeez (new)

Raeez (autodidact) | 38 comments It's fine with me. But I must admit that I'm kinda slow reader and walker.

So, tonight it is ?

Hmm. Okay okay, so I'll suggest some books I know as my list is very little (inches long) then you reflect on it from the next TBR. Okay?

message 9: by IShita (new)

IShita The pace seems quite fast. IDK why I say that but I think so. It's a slow book, won't take much time. I might finish it in 2-3 days given I have some time off college too. Let's see!

I'm okay with that. I have a few classics buddy reads for the next few months, I'll inform as and when they start, and then we can decide what to do.

Happy reading :)

message 10: by Raeez (new)

Raeez (autodidact) | 38 comments 2 to 3 days is fast. I will try to keep up with THAT pace.

Happy reading to you too. :-)

message 11: by Raeez (new)

Raeez (autodidact) | 38 comments Hey, my bad. Just checked it's only 94 pages long. I'm okay with 2 days. :-)

Just finished Intro. (Hope I get this comedy or satire :-D)

message 12: by Utkarsh (new)

Utkarsh (utkarsh12) I haven't read much classics yet. humor seems like a good place to start. I might read Candide, if I don't get distracted by something else. Which happens often.

You guys enjoy till then...:)

message 13: by Raeez (new)

Raeez (autodidact) | 38 comments Hey Ustkarsh ! Just started an hour ago. As Ishita said it is a fast read but I m doubting the length of epub.

message 14: by IShita (new)

IShita I made a typing mistake. I meant it's a short book, not slow. The pace is medium and the chapters really short. I completed 2. Might complete some more today. It's one of those books you can easily complete in a go if you're dedicated enough.

Hey Utkarsh, we'll be glad to have you. It's a short book and pretty easy too. Just overlook the historical references and you're good :)

message 15: by IShita (new)

IShita Raeez, it's a short book. Your ePub is fine :)

message 16: by Raeez (new)

Raeez (autodidact) | 38 comments Okay. :-)

At 4. Will start tomorrow from there.

message 17: by IShita (new)

IShita Okay :)

message 18: by Utkarsh (last edited Apr 13, 2015 09:42PM) (new)

Utkarsh (utkarsh12) Hey Raeez and Ishita...

This book is hilarious, pure sarcasm. Also, I am liking the writing style.
I already have short fuse for laughter, I think I am gonna laugh like an idiot throughout the book.

(view spoiler)

message 19: by Raeez (new)

Raeez (autodidact) | 38 comments :-D Yeah, it is funny. :-)

Utkarsh (utkarsh12) Rebecca wrote: "Can I join or is it too late? Have you all finished?"

message 25: by Rebecca (new)

Rebecca | 272 comments OK . Thanks. Will start this now. Warning Am a slow reader. And I love sarcasm.

message 26: by Utkarsh (new)

Utkarsh (utkarsh12) @Rebecca No problem, the other two are slow reader as well.

message 29: by Raeez (new)

Raeez (autodidact) | 38 comments @Rebecca : (y)

message 30: by IShita (new)

IShita Haha, true that Utkarsh. And the stories that they make up! I'm about 14 chapters in too. This is super fast, I love the pace! Plus the language. Voltaire never disappoints :)

Rebecca- more the merrier. It's anyway an easy, super fast and fun read.

message 31: by Raeez (new)

Raeez (autodidact) | 38 comments Hey guys !! :-)

I feel it is better for us to have this habit.

#Habit 1 : "Thou shalt state thy progress before dinner everyday".

:-D From this fellow buddies will have an idea. :-)

Suggestions?

And Happy reading.

message 32: by Utkarsh (last edited Apr 14, 2015 08:36AM) (new)

Utkarsh (utkarsh12) @Ishita yeah, Lot of funny stories. :D

It feels like mockery of war and human nature. Funny and thought provoking at the same time. And Writing is excellent.
I will finish it after dinner I guess.

What chapter you liked most yet guys.

message 33: by Rebecca (new)

Rebecca | 272 comments I just finished chapter 11. I loved the first chapter most which really had me laughing out loud.

I have halted at 15, reading other books. :-)

message 35: by Utkarsh (last edited Apr 14, 2015 09:10AM) (new)

Utkarsh (utkarsh12) @Rebecca yeah, 'cause and effect got him kicked at backside'line made me laugh for a while. I found second chapter equally hilarious too.

@Raeez yeah, it is.

Okay, I am too stopping for now.

message 36: by IShita (new)

IShita I can't stop reading. The book is amazing! I'll complete most of it tonight. Don't have much free time tomorrow.

That line had me cracking too! I liked chapter 1 best. But I also found The Old Woman's Story funny. It's such a mockery in itself! It's so funny how straight forward the writing is- she found us kissing and kicked my backside out of the house- lol!

message 37: by Raeez (new)

Raeez (autodidact) | 38 comments Hehe. :-D

Take care of your eyes too. :-)

message 38: by IShita (new)

IShita Will do, thanks :)

message 39: by Raeez (new)

Raeez (autodidact) | 38 comments I have finished reading this book. It is good. :-)

message 40: by Rebecca (new)

Rebecca | 272 comments I have started chapter 20. This becomes more and more interesting. What profound thoughts said in a very casual manner. (view spoiler)

Raeez (autodidact) | 38 comments Yeah. So will u find some at end. :-)

message 45: by Utkarsh (new)

Utkarsh (utkarsh12) Finished it today. it was fun. excellent writing and mockery of serious topics.
I would have finished it sooner but I kept laughing in between and kept thinking about what I had read.

message 47: by Rebecca (new)

Rebecca | 272 comments Finished. Enjoyed it immensely.(view spoiler)

message 48: by Raeez (new)

Raeez (autodidact) | 38 comments feel flat? What do you mean?

message 49: by IShita (new)

IShita Still a few chapters to go but shall finish it soon. Wasn't much free today.

I get what you mean about the profanity written with causality. I read the chapter about Eldorado- that was something! It was this chapter that I found my favorite quote from- "you see, my friend, how perishable are the riches of this world. There is nothing more solid but virtue and the prospect of seeing Lady Cunégonde again".
