You need to grab one for outside comfort zone at minimum. I'll see what I have later after Judith grabs hers. I am mostly still doing smaller books this week before Wheel.

Oh dang! You're right. That is most inconvenient, as I've read all of those for this turf round already (and there were many! lol).I'm sure I can force in another once Judith has chosen her letters.
And done! (this out of comfort zone was considerably better than the others I read this week!)Won't be finishing any more books for a couple of days now.
Teehee! no rush! I just needed to get the first 2 done today because it's the end of the round, and the third one is rubbish for turf, so thought I'd get that done before the next round too 😆
I was holding one book and finished the other yesterday. I also was first on the spreadsheet so I kind of lucked out. Sammy, how did you like the book? I spent three months last year working with baboons but generally am weary of my study topics in popular science books.
I loved it! But I am not an expert, so wouldn't get annoyed with the inaccuracies, as I don't know what they are 😆I remember you working with the baboons. They were less than well behaved, if memory serves!
I can believe it!I've not had the pleasure myself, but I have spent some time with several different species of Lemurs while working on an awareness vid for a conservation programme some years back.
Adorable, but mischievous little so-and-sos 😆 Also very bitey!
I'm hoping to finish my last book for this today so we can all start fresh with Wheel books for the next one :)
I might not be able to squeeze in any out-of-comfort zone books until the 16th. But we'll wait and see what the tasks will be and then go from there 😆
19. The Crying Boy Painting

The Crying Boy Painting refers to a series of mass-produced prints created by Italian artist Giovanni Bragolin (also known as Bruno Amadio) in the 1950s. These portraits typically feature a young boy with large, sorrowful eyes and tears streaming down his face. Though the painting was originally meant to evoke sympathy and emotion, it gained a far more sinister reputation in the 1980s.
A legend began circulating in the UK after numerous house fires left homes destroyed, but with the Crying Boy painting untouched and unscathed among the rubble. This eerie pattern led to widespread fear that the artwork was cursed, said to bring misfortune, fire, or tragedy to anyone who owned it.
The image of the Crying Boy(visually simple yet emotionally intense) became a modern folklore icon. Some claimed the boy's spirit was trapped in the painting, while others believed it was connected to an orphan who died in a blaze. Whether viewed as haunted or coincidental, the painting's legacy remains one of unsettling intrigue.
To this day, The Crying Boy Painting is remembered not just as a melancholy piece of art but as a symbol of how emotion, myth, and mystery can turn an innocent image into an object of dread.
Complete the following tasks
📅3. Trapped in 1950
Read a chain of 3 books where the number 1950 clings like soot to canvas. If it slips into the page count, at least two of its digits (1, 9, 5, 0) must show themselves. If it burns into the publication date, all four digits must appear, scattered through the numbers like an omen you cannot scrub away. A book of 290 pages, another of 315, or one with 519 would suffice… as would a date marked 09/15/2000 or 05/19/2014, where the Crying Boy’s shadow still lingers.
🇬🇧4. The Curse Circulates
Read a chain of 3 books that is set in the United Kingdom. Bonus points if it includes small towns, old houses, or tabloid-level folklore. Even more bonus if something burns.
🐍6. The Myth Behind the Mourning
Read a chain of 3 books that involves mythology or a myth retelling, especially if the theme includes grief, punishment, or eternal watching. Think Hades/Persephone, Medusa, Cassandra, or other figures who were misunderstood, punished, or trapped.

Bonus items are optional, BUT your team must decide now whether to do them or NOT. Once a decision is made, it cannot be changed.
✨Bonus 10: The Bronze Lady

The Bronze Lady is supposedly the ghost of Ann Thomas. Local lore suggests that disrespecting the statue, such as sitting in her lap, slapping her face, or insulting her, will bring on a curse. Some people claim to have heard the statue weep or have felt its tears.
To catch the Bronze Lady
Read a book with a statue on the cover
Read a book where someone weeps or cries in the story
Read a book that starts with a letter in BRONZE

Sammy, I don't think the Broze Lady tasks need to be in chains. I think it's just one book a piece. It's a bonus. Our actual item is The Crying Boy
Sammy wrote: "Got it!I don't suppose Mask of the Deer Woman re-tells any navive American myths at all?"
Yes, The Deer Woman is a real character in Native mythology
It's not a retelling, but very much uses the myth of Deer Woman so I would say it counts based on the task description
Judith wrote: "
statue on cover?"
Not sure... I think it may be a person wearing a mask... (that's a whole other task that pops up often! lol)
Dang! I thought The Ashes of London would be great for the GB, but it has the WORST turf score 😆I have plenty set in the UK, but things burning probably not gonna happen 😂
Ok, have something for the main tasks, but the Milly Johnson will be after the 15th, I'm afraid. no way I can fit it in to this turf round.as for the bonus, tasks 2 & 3 are easy enough, but I'm sure I could find something for the statue if needed, so you guys grab what you want and I'll vac up what's left 😁
I found a statue on cover so I'll let you and Lexi work out the other. I think both of you are planning to read The Book of Doors, which works for both remaining tasks for the bonus
I don't see anywhere that the bonus needs to be read after the others?I was hoping to start wheels with The Book of Doors. also, I will need to read it before the end of the 14th, and can't read the GB task until the 16th...
Trying to keep all my books straight is giving me a headache 😆
I think they can be read in any order. I need to read mine first too as I have only two days left on the library loan.
🎀 Belle tilts her porcelain head, lashes lowered in mock curiosity.
“Oh my… are the tasks far too simple for you, my eager little playthings?
Shall we twist them tighter, make them more complicated, perhaps even assign you an order in which to perform them — just as you suggested? Since you seem so anxious to prove yourselves… perhaps I should indulge that impatience.”
Her giggle echoes like glass cracking.

I had to get another copy of Book of Doors as my first one returned itself but will be starting today.

EEK!
That's me done for this one. Have a whole load of super short ones coming up now, so no rush to finish for you guys!
I’m done for this round as well. I DNF’d the King Arthur book and switched it out for another retelling.
I'm done with the books for the item, can we check that in before we check in on the bonus?Or do we need to be done both? I should be done with the statue book likely tomorrow.
I have no idea why, but this wheel is set on giving me numbers in haunted objects list. I mean, it's fine we want to do the all eventually any way.But I had to respin a couple times to get a new number and still ended up with 20.

Maybe the wheel is ... haunted.

20. The Dollhouse (Twilight Zone)

In this eerie tale, a woman named Elaine purchases an antique dollhouse from a mysterious store. The dollhouse is exquisitely detailed(an exact replica of a Victorian home) and comes complete with tiny, delicate furnishings and dolls posed within.
As Elaine brings it into her home, she begins to notice unsettling phenomena: the dolls shift positions on their own, rooms in the dollhouse rearrange themselves, and events inside the miniature house eerily mirror or even predict occurrences in her real life.
The boundary between the dollhouse and reality begins to blur. It becomes clear that the dollhouse isn’t just a toy, it’s a supernatural force, observing, controlling, or even reshaping Elaine’s fate.
This episode stands out as one of The Twilight Zone’s chilling modern-era entries into the haunted object subgenre, tapping into primal fears of losing control over one’s own world.
Complete the following tasks:
🎎1. Small Spaces, Big Creeps
Read a chain of 3 books set in a small or isolated location — a house, cabin, apartment, school, or even a single town.
📺3. From the Screen
Read a chain of 3 books that has been made into a movie or TV show — or was inspired by one.
🏠5. Haunted Home Vibes
Read a chain of 3 books with a house on the cover or in the title. Bonus if it's slightly too perfect.

Haunted wheel indeed! With the monster wheels, our team has discovered there is some kind of virus at work (it spreads from one team member to the next), and at any given time at least half the team will only spin 500+ monsters.
Cat has been banned from spinning the Greek wheek altogether. She is definitely cursed! 😆
