To Kill a Troubadour - Walker Audio performance by Robert Ian MacKenzie 4 stars
There is so much going on in this book. It’s hard to believe that Bruno has time to take a deep breath, let alone, ride his horse and cook excellent meals for his friends.
The troubadour of the title is a folk singer/lyricist who attracts some unwanted attention with a song that celebrates Catalonian culture. I think Walker has something important to say about the dangers of politically charged misuse of social media. It isn’t a subtle message. In this book the media frenzy creates international turmoil and a terrorist threat. The exciting finale was a bit over the top, but I never doubted that Bruno would save the situation with a last second intervention.
I was most invested in the subplot of Florence and her ex-convict ex-husband. It was good to see the community rallying in support of Florence and her children.
I was really trying to slow down. But too much family drama in the last 2 weeks. I had trouble concentrating on anything completely new. Bruno is such a reliable comfort distraction. I'm so glad you turned me on to this series.
It's a great series. I feel like I am visiting old friends every time I read one, which for some time has been once a year. I started reading them in 2012.
Great to read your review. I just purchased it from the used, library shelf a few hours ago! Were any of the meals particularly noteworthy or inspiring?

In my review I say "He almost outdoes himself with cooking by helping to prepare a spit-roasted wild boar."
