Writers, your first chapter is the first impression you make on readers. As a beta reader with over six years of experience, I can extensively comment on the strengths of an opening while also pointing out what isn't working or has the potential to be better.

If you're interested in getting detailed feedback on your first chapter for free, please pitch through the form below.

Turnaround time depends on the queue, but you can expect comments usually within a week's time. Only open to anything fantasy or speculative fiction. The chapter should be under 8000 words. Please no works in progress; a writer with a completed draft will benefit the most with this beta read.

In an era where such services are crowded with bots and readers incapable of writing a feedback themselves and thereby feeding works into AI, I would love to get you a constructive feedback written by an experienced human.

I look forward to reading some wonderful first chapters!

Jeannine Harris | 24 comments A thank you to Fanna for her thoughtful and skilled feedback on my first chapter. It was a treat to read her in-depth review.

With her expert analysis, Fanna showed what intrigued her and what made my chapter a possible page turner, which has helped me gain valuable insight. I could only dream of having her skills. This is true when it came to providing advice on paragraphing - the length and positioning as well as sensory misconceptions and suggestions on how to correct it. Commenting on the places where attention is lost and gained is key for my next revision. Highlighting an excellent sentence and paragraph was generous and kind. Thank you for giving me an exceptional ‘helicopter’ view of my opening chapter. My best wishes to you 😊
