heav (hamilton’s version) (judesduartes) | 23 comments i’d love to hear anyones advice but this is mostly aimed for those who read everyday and are already at 100+ books for the year?? i usually have my phases of reading a LOTT and then it dies down for months… how do y’all read so much and keep that spark?

Sami Azhari | 3 comments Setting goals helps me. I get motivated that way as well as by being in groups where other people are reading a lot and trying to accomplish the same thing. Some things I do are trying to read a set number of books per month, or trying to read all books in a particular series, all books by a particular author, or a certain number of books of a certain page length or more.

The thought of there being more books for me to read and mountains to climb keeps me going.

message 3: by Monika (new)

Monika Maybe that sounds crazy but I jump between books, reading in average 3 books at the same time, from different genres, usually one bit longer than the others every day depending on my mood if you know what I mean 🤔😁. Eg. Yesterday I finished Shadow and Bone, today - The Library of Shadows, and still reading 4.50 from Paddington, planning to start The Hunger of the Gods tonight and possibly Summer of Love tomorrow or day after 😂

Trista Noell (tristanoell) | 17 comments literally I read about 4-6 books at a time

Jessica (jlritter) | 7 comments I switch between e book, physical and audio. If all 3 make me feel meh, I switch to documentaries on Netflix and crochet 😅

heav (hamilton’s version) (judesduartes) | 23 comments thank you everyone! i love setting goals so i need to do that more fs 😭 but i haven’t really tried reading multiple books at once 😦 maybe i’ll give it a try soon

Jasper ~ fit check for my napalm era | 54 comments could try reading something you wouldn't normally pick up: For example, I usually read fantasy or manga, but I picked up some classics

message 8: by Sarah (new)

Sarah B | 212 comments I tend to switch between genres so I read a wide variety of book types. I try to read / pick books that hopefully will be interesting to me but sometimes I do read things a bit out of my comfort range too (especially in the nonfiction area - not long ago I read a new release about Lincoln when I normally don't read about presidents or world leaders )

Since July 13 I have read (finished):

.....

I go to the library a LOT.
I am trying to read a lot of books published in 2025
I am trying to read series.
I read a few short books in-between the long books.
I read a wide variety of stuff. That's why I go to the library. And I visit a lot of different libraries in my city. I get exercise by walking to and from them. I go look in different areas of the library as you don't never know what you may find.

You would be totally SHOCKED at how many library books I actually have checked out. It's over 40 books.

Put the book names on a piece of paper. If they are library books do it according to due date.
Then when you finish the book scratch the title off in a different colored pen. I use a red pen. It gives you a dose of dopamine.

I also read kid's books, middle grade and YA too..

Know that you DON'T have to finish a book or read a book you have lost interest in.

I often like to look on the shelf for OLD books. Sometimes those can be very interesting.

Try carrying books with you. I often carry a book and then read it outside somewhere.

Hope this might help.

If I think of anything else I will post it here.

You can also try doing some of those book related games if you are in the mood. Like ABC titles / authors, do a Pretty / Ugly cover, do various book related fun challenges (many groups do these)... I used to do those but this year I am not interested. Instead I am doing the 2025 books, trying to read series, trying to read horse related books each Thursday (as I go to the ranch that day) ....

Try the Pop Sugar Challenge...

And take a rest if you need it. Reading can use up B1 I believe.

Cozy Puppy Reads (cozypuppyreads) | 15 comments Following because I'd love suggestions, too! I have been switching between mostly ebook and audiobook, and if the library has it, physical book. I also use the Hoopla app through the library, and they have a lot of graphic novels or short series comics to borrow, which mixes things up. I will constantly look for new recommendations, and it also helps me to switch genres for something completely different if I start feeling burnt out.

message 10: by Jim (new)

Jim Lawson | 1 comments I read with a cool win besides me

message 11: by Em (new)

Em | 78 comments I'm currently in a major burnout (currently 7 books behind my goal) and it doesn't look like it's ending anytime soon. I don't have any advice for how to get out of a burnout, but I do advise not to read 4 1,000+ page high fantasy books in under a month.
