I'll look into it. Solved

Lorraine | 2378 comments Only 3 prompts left for the Singles!
Houhou!

1- Read a book containing time travel. I am taking care of it
2- Read a book with a timepiece on the cover. Jenn is taking care of it
3- Read a book you haven’t read since you were younger. Antun is working on it

Antun (4ntun) | 14 comments Thank you, Lorraine :)
And re: Joan Didion - she's a very skillful writer and obviously a person of incredible intellect and emotional intelligence. But for some reason, this didn’t connect with me the way Patti Smith’s Just Kids did (even though both deal with the same themes - love, death and grief). Still, parts of it moved me deeply and I would say the book is a great achievement - above all a great personal achievement for Joan. It reads like a meditation. Writing about what hurts is the hardest thing to write about.

Thanks Antun. Another one to read this year.
I will be reading The Housekeeper and the Professor in October with some friends in a Buddy Read.

That's perfect Syd. The readathon is ending on the 27th so we still have time.

message 159: by Syd (new)

Syd TheSquid | 20 comments I finished a book that fits the 1970 prompt but it looks like Beth already has a planned book for that. Do I just put it in the non prompt or?

message 160: by Lorraine (new)

Lorraine | 2378 comments Yes Syd, put it in the 1970 prompt. We can always move things later but for now the prompts are the priority.

Book 3? Good for you!

JennH | 916 comments I tried updating the spreadsheet. It wasn’t that easy for me. Please correct if there are any errors.

I also forgot to mention that I had found books that I owned with years in the title. I’ve started one. I know Brianna has said she’s up for reading her books but I’ve read and loved 11/22/63. I also know it’s a doorstopper at 800+ pages. Mine can be back up.

Good morning Jenn. I think we should use whatever books we finish first to complete the prompts so we get bonus points for the 2020 books we will be reading. I am reading a book published in the 1990S so I can move Montana 1948 to a book with a year in the title if needed.
I will look at the spreadsheet and see if corrections are needed but I know people have been having problems updating spreadsheet when using the app.

message 163: by Lorraine (new)

Lorraine | 2378 comments Good morning Syd.
Just so you know, I have moved the column for your book The Hiding Place to completed.

message 164: by Lorraine (new)

Lorraine | 2378 comments Good morning, Antun, Beth, and Brianna—though I suppose it’s already good afternoon for you, Antun! 😁

We’re up to 36 books—woohoo! Just 14 more to go before we can start racking up bonus points for extra books published in the 2020s.

I’ll send out a summary of what’s still missing later this afternoon.

In the meantime, I suggest we use the first book we finish to fill in any prompts we still need. The faster we complete all the prompts, the faster we can start earning those bonuses! (Yes, I know we can always shift things around later—and you'd be right to say so—but hey, this is just me being a little competitive! 😄)

Happy reading to all!

message 165: by Lorraine (last edited Jul 24, 2025 03:18AM) (new)

Lorraine | 2378 comments I've removed the light blue from all the prompts that are still missing books, and this in the 3 tabs, so we know we still have to complete those prompts.

Oh, and I kept the 2 books I completed for the 2020s on the planning tab for now.

Hope I make sense. Got up a little bit too early!

message 166: by Syd (new)

Syd TheSquid | 20 comments Thanks, I keep forgetting to move them. I should be done with 1960 today since it’s a shorter book.

message 167: by Lorraine (new)

Lorraine | 2378 comments Syd wrote: "Thanks, I keep forgetting to move them. I should be done with 1960 today since it’s a shorter book."

No problem. That is great! That would mean our 1960s would be completed!

message 168: by Lorraine (new)

Lorraine | 2378 comments Beth wrote: "I'm finishing at least 2 books today. I'll start another 2 or 3 as well."

Hi Beth. Hope you're well. If ever it is possible for you to update the spreadsheet with your finished books and the one you`re currently reading, that would help me to create an accurate summary of what is left to do at the end of the day.

If you do not have access to the spreadsheet I can help.

Thanks

JennH | 916 comments I’ve finished and added to the spreadsheet, The White Rose: Munich 1942-1943, and The Time Machine. Please correct, if any errors. Or move , if necessary. I haven’t highlighted bc I can’t seem to pull up the same colors as I can on the computer. And the automatic highlighting on the tracking page seems not be working. If not done, I can take care of it tomorrow.

Jenn: Done! I'll see if I can make a summary tomorrow morning. I am too tired now. And then, I'll pass the ball to you! 🤣If you have questions when you get back do not hesitate.

Have a nice evening everyone! Hope I won't be awake at 4am again tomorrow morning...😒

Brianna | 126 comments Hey team,

I thought I was getting better, but it turns out that was not the case. I tested positive for COVID today, and the symptoms are kicking my butt. I will be able to finish All The Light We Cannot See, but I will need help with the other prompt I committed to.

I really, really apologize for the inconvenience! Talk about a bad time to get sick!

You guys are killing it, and I am sorry that I could not be more helpful.

message 173: by Syd (new)

Antun (4ntun) | 14 comments 42 books now, and looks like we're done with Singles prompts! Amazing job everyone!
I'm starting Brave New World tomorrow and that will probably be my last book for the Readathlon. Not sure I’ll have time for another, but I’ll give it my best shot :)
Happy reading and enjoy the rest of the evening!

Edit: Don't worry Brianna. Wishing you a speedy recovery! Take care.

Thank you for that summary!

Lorraine | 2378 comments Beth, I have a book that could fit the 1980s. It would be a reread for me so let me know if you want me to jump in and replace you for that prompts.
If not I will try to read a 2020 book.

JennH | 916 comments Just a quick note while on my phone -

Oh no, Brianna! Echoing Beth, please don’t apologize. Wishing you a speedy recovery!

I just finished Happy Birthday, Turk! My ipad is packed. If someone could update the spreadsheet, otherwise I’ll update when I get home and access to my computer later.

I’m holding off finishing Peach Tea Smash for the bonus round. I’ve got less than a hundred pages to go. I’ll see what else I can read to help finish the main prompts. It’s a bit hard to figure out the spreadsheet on the phone…

Hope everyone is well. I will catch up on the other comments later.

message 184: by JennH, Cheerleader (new)

JennH | 916 comments Hi Team! Thanks for keeping us organized, Beth and Lorraine!

Hope everyone is still doing well! We're on the homestretch with the last two days now. You've been awesome!

@Beth - I read a couple more books that you had book possibilities for. Hoped to ease the burden on you since it seemed you still had a lot to read. And I was excited to get to the bonus books sooner. 😳

I have a bunch of 2020 books ready to go. I plan get started on them tomorrow. Will try to get in as much as I can. Forgot that we're going to have guests on Sunday. Think there's any chance I can convince everyone to just hang out and read? hahaha

message 185: by Beth (last edited Jul 26, 2025 08:56AM) (new)

Beth | 1547 comments Update to post 176. I think I have everything accounted for; don't hesitate to let me know if not.

Singles - all 8 prompts complete

Doubles - 8 prompts complete; 1 in progress
Published or set in the 1930s: 1 to go - Antun In Progress

Triples - 7 prompts complete; 1 in progress
Published or set in the 1960s: 1 to go - Syd In Progress

Bonus (2020s books) - 4 complete (currently counted as Non-Prompt) - we had 5; not sure what happened to the 1

Non-Prompt, etc - 5 complete (excluded potential bonus books)

message 186: by Lorraine (new)

Lorraine | 2378 comments This is great work!

Beth: I will enter my last page count at the end of the day tomorrow. I do not think I'll be able to finish another 2020 book. Sorry for that.

Happy reading everyone.

message 187: by JennH, Cheerleader (new)

JennH | 916 comments Good afternoon, team! A reminder that the readathon ends tomorrow, Sunday July 27th, at midnight in your timezone.

@Beth - Thanks for the update. Looks great!

@Lorraine - Don't be silly! What are you apologizing about? By my count you will have read 20 books! That's beyond amazing!

@Brianna - Hope you are getting rest and feeling better!

@Antun & Syd - I hope you are both doing well with your books. You've got this!

Happy reading!

Beth | 1547 comments To echo Jenn's post, all of us except Antun are in USEDT, and Antun is 6 hours ahead of us. I have a note on my calendar to do a final check around 11.30 PM tomorrow (Sunday, 27th) to ensure everything is marked and accounted for. Any problems in the meantime, feel free to reply here or message me!

Excellent work, all! Woo hoo!

message 189: by Antun (new)

Antun (4ntun) | 14 comments I'm around 60% through "Brave New World", but I’ll definitely finish it before the readathon ends tomorrow. And I honestly can’t believe I hadn’t read it sooner, it’s incredible. Scarily prophetic and true. Maybe even more so than "1984", even though I prefer Orwell's writing style.

Hope you're all enjoying your books and having fun :)

message 190: by Brianna (new)

Brianna | 126 comments Hopping on to say that "All the Light We Cannot See" will be completed by tomorrow if it is still needed.

Starting to finally feel better, thanks for the get well wishes!

Brianna, so glad you're starting to feel better! Even though your prompt was already fulfilled, All the Light We Cannot See can go for page points. Hope you're enjoying the book. I loved it.

Antun (4ntun) | 14 comments @JennH Done with the book and wow! What an ending!

Thank you for the recommendation :) I have read some parts of "We" for one of the lit. history classes last semester and it was super interesting so I'll give the whole thing a shot soon.

Happy reading!

message 194: by Syd (new)

Syd TheSquid | 20 comments Alright I finished 1960 prompt so I’m pretty sure all needed prompts are complete so whoever has 2020 books to put in the spreadsheet can do so. I hope yall had fun. I’ve a little busy so I haven’t been reading that much but I forced myself to finish this one so we could put in 2020 books. Good luck on the last day of the readathon guys!!

message 195: by Lorraine (new)

Lorraine | 2378 comments Hello Team
I have added my last books for today. I was able to add another 2020 book.

That was fun! I discovered new authors and I enjoy most of the book I read.
Great team. Hope to see you around at some buddy reads or another readathon!

message 196: by Beth (new)

Beth | 1547 comments Hey team! I'm going to go through the spreadsheet now and make sure we've gotten all the prompts covered, move the 2020s to the Bonus section, and otherwise generally finalize the spreadsheet. I'll be back in a bit with final tally.

message 197: by Beth (new)

Beth | 1547 comments Is anyone still reading? I've been trying to finalize the spreadsheet, but it's proving a bit tricky. The majority of us have only an hour left to read, so do what you're going to do now! 😊

I'll hold off till tomorrow on the spreadsheet in case anyone has anything last minute to add. As long as you finish the book by midnight tonight, you're good!

Thanks for finishing the book despite being busy, Syd! Please, next time, don't feel the need to force yourself. Let the team know, and I'm sure someone would jump in and help. I know we're a little bit competitive but it's also supposed to be fun. I'd never want for participating in a readathon to be a chore. I hope you had fun!
