Mansi V | 239 comments Hope you're okay Lisa Marie!

Wow so many books already read, congrats team!!

I'm a 2-3 books at a time kind of reader. I'm on track for finishing all four books I've put in the spreadsheet, but probably won't be competing them until towards the end of the readathon.

Looking at my uni schedule for next week, I also have 150 pages of textbook reading 😭 Was wondering if this reading would count for page points in the readathon?

KSMary | 306 comments This weekend, I finished:
Summer of '69
Cocaine Blues
Rocket Boys: A Memoir
The Thin Man

I need to pick up one of my '50's book tomorrow and I can add Calico Joe - set in 70's or Around the World in Eighty Days - unit of time . Let me know which one you would like me to prioritize.

Janine | 1566 comments No worries at all Lisa Marie. I'm sorry to hear you've been having health issues. I hope you're looking after yourself. Well done for finding some time to read despite all that :) Thanks for putting your stuff on the tracking page, I have also copied and pasted on to the completed page for you.
I hope it's ok that I switched Vinegar Hill to the timepiece prompt. That's the one I'd provisionally assigned it to (highlighted in green) and we only have two books that can fit that prompt and the other one is already assigned to a prompt that we have no other swaps for, so I felt we needed it more. We can switch it back later if needed or if you've got another plan in mind.

Mansi - I get that, that's what I'm usually like too. I often have an audiobook, an ebook or two, and a physical book on the go. Great to hear you're on track. Good work!

In terms of your textbook question - yes I think it counts. I'm sure this was asked and confirmed in a previous readathon although I can't find the exact comment. As long as it's fitting the other requirements (i.e. not graphic novel/screenplay) and you're reading the pages in full, then definitely add it to the non-prompt/DNF section.

Mary - An incredible start to the readathon for you! Maybe go for the unit of time, just because we have no spare swaps for that one, but either is good so you can always pick whichever entices you more.

Kate | 8 comments Looks like everyone is off to a good start. I just finished a Nancy Drew Book (from the 1930s). Need to check my library stack against the open prompts. I'm also reading for the Goodreads summer challenge and listening to audiobooks on Youtube that have matches on Goodreads/fit prompts.

Next books in lineup:
The Saturday Night Ghost Club
The Midnight Library

Both should fit a unit of time prompts and ghost club fits the 1980s

I need to pick up a few books from the library as well as my 1940's prompt book is on the hold shelf.

Does anyone have a library running an adult summer program? I was able to log all my reading online and need to pick up my summer tote bag. The rest of my reading points will go into a drawing for other stuff though there's no note about what the winner will get. We used to participate in the children's summer reading programs on and off because they had good rewards to local venues as well as free books.

Janine | 1566 comments Great work Kate :) It looks like on the tracking tab you (or someone) have put it under both book you haven't read since you were younger, and 1930s. Unfortunately it can't count for both, and we already have a book by Lisa Marie planned for 1930s, whereas your book is the only one we have planned that can fit book you haven't read since you were younger so I've left it there.

I love that your library has an adult summer programme! I've not seen anything like that, but that's really fun.

Lisa Marie Kemmerer (readingwithlisamarie) | 676 comments Hello Tome Travellers.....Hope you all had a great Day 4 of the READATHON!! You all are doing such an awesome job!!

Janine....that is absolutely fine to change a book of mine to fit where it is needed!! I appreciate you staying on top of it!! You're awesome!! So, thank you!!
I am wondering about the second book for PUBLISHED OR SET IN THE 1930'S? I don't see a book listed or am I missing it?

I finsihed The Women's March: A Novel of the 1913 Woman Suffrage Procession and that finished up the prompt for A YEAR OR DATE IN THE TITLE :) I thought was the best place it fit :)

I will finish Sold on a Monday for the prompt DAY OF THE WEEK OR MONTH IN THE TITLE :)

I will be picking a few more books to read here in just a few and will let you all know which prompts that will fit.

Again, you all are doing such an awesome job with reading!! I am so excited to continue!! I am really enjoying this READATHON!!
I will try to go through the prompts tonight and see where we need to coverage the most and pick books to fill those prompts if we don't already have some planned out already!!

Also, Kate....yes my library where I live in Michigan is running an Adult Reading Program that I am taking part in :) That is great that you have one where you live!!

message 57: by KSMary (new)

KSMary | 306 comments I finished Calico Joe today for the 1970's prompt and I will start my 2 books for the set in the 1950's.

Janine - It looks like Kate has a book planned for the date or year so I will hold off on Around the World in Eighty Days unless you will use Kate's books in other places and need it. Just let me know

Kate - I am also participating in the Adult Summer Reading program at my local library; although, I haven't gone in to get any of the prizes that I've earned so far. I think I have 2 free books plus some other small things that I've achieved for different tiers so far.

Rachael (allons-y-bookworm) | 4815 comments I should be finishing my third book today and I'm flexible about what to read next. I'll have a look at the spreadsheet to help me decide. If there is a specific prompt we need filling, let me know and I'll see if I have a book that fits

message 59: by Rachael (last edited Jul 22, 2025 01:53AM) (new)

Rachael (allons-y-bookworm) | 4815 comments Don't know if it's just me but our book titles seem to be missing from the planning tab??? Trying to work out which column relates to me...

message 60: by Janine (last edited Jul 22, 2025 03:12AM) (new)

Janine | 1566 comments Apologies to anyone looking at the spreadsheet confused this morning. It seems someone accidentally deleted the entire row of book names (about 7 hours ago). I have restored the older version of the file with the book names and will go through the edit history now looking for any changes that happened in that time, but if you made an edit and it disappeared - that may be why!

Lisa Marie - For 1930s, I already read Death in the Clouds and you currently have Rules of Civility planned. Unless your plans have changed? If you look on the planning tab, the ones I had planned for the books are highlighted in green. If you've put The Women's March in year or date, I will switch Mansi's planned book to be 2000s and we'll need a 1910s instead.

Mary - the book Kate mentioned is the one we already had planned on the spreadsheet. It's a double so we need two, so your Around thh World in Eighty Days is still needed, or another one by someone :) Edit: Rachael is planning one now.

I'll make a new list of what's needed following all the new books read/planned and swaps made.

message 61: by Janine (new)

Janine | 1566 comments Rachael wrote: "Don't know if it's just me but our book titles seem to be missing from the planning tab??? Trying to work out which column relates to me..."

Sorry Rachael, you must've written this whilst I was trying to fix it and I didn't see it. Should be all fixed now, and I hope I've caught the edits that were made between the error and the restored version 🤞 It was very confusing though!

message 62: by Janine (last edited Jul 23, 2025 10:31AM) (new)

Janine | 1566 comments Here is what we still need:

* Set in two or more time periods x1 OR 1920s, OR 1970s OR 1980s OR 1990s OR older main character OR containing time travel OR future decade. So many swaps possible for this one!
* With a unit of time in the title x1 (no possible swaps) - The Last Hour Between Worlds (Rachael)
* Published or set in 1900s x1 (no possible swaps) - The Wonderful Wizard of Oz (Janine)
* Published or set in 1910s x1 OR 1950s OR year or date in title. - Remember Me? (Lisa Marie) - swaps made to 2000s
* Published or set in 1960s x1 OR 1940s, OR year or date in title
* Published or set in 1980s x1 OR 1920s, OR 1970s - I Was a Teenage Slasher (Bailey)

If you finish, or think you'll finish, what you're planning, please do share if you can cover any of these :)

I've made a full list of prompts we are still working on below and which books are planned, but I've put it under a spoiler tag so this post isn't horribly long and confusing if people don't want to see the full plan.

(view spoiler)

message 63: by Rachael (new)

Rachael (allons-y-bookworm) | 4815 comments I could read The Last Hour Between Worlds next to help fill the unit of time prompt 👍

message 64: by Janine (new)

Janine | 1566 comments Thank you Rachael! I've updated the list above.

message 65: by bailey, Challenges (new)

bailey (bailsbookshelves) | 1229 comments I can take the 80s prompt with I Was a Teenage Slasher after I finish up Carrot Cake Murder and The Girl Who Loved Tom Gordon! I’ve got about 30% left of both of those.

Thank you for making that list, Janine! It was super helpful 🖤

message 66: by Janine (new)

KSMary | 306 comments I was also wondering what happened to the Planning Tab. Thanks for fixing this.

I have two books that I'm reading which will complete the 1950's

The Dollhouse - halfway through
The Chelsea Girls

message 68: by KSMary (last edited Jul 22, 2025 07:15PM) (new)

KSMary | 306 comments I finished The Dollhouse] and Build the Life You Want: The Art and Science of Getting Happier which I added to the non-prompt section.

message 69: by Lisa Marie (last edited Jul 22, 2025 08:27PM) (new)

Lisa Marie Kemmerer (readingwithlisamarie) | 676 comments Hello Tome Travellers!! I first need to apologize because I believe that the row got deleted when I left the page up and went to take a bath. I came out to find my grandson playing on my computer and telling me he was doing work. It was on the tracking page and didn't see any problems so I shut everything down and I am just getting on today. So, really this is on me and I am so sorry for the extra work I have caused those that fixed my mistake!! Again I am so sorry!!

JANINE ~ I am still planning on reading Rules of Civility for the 1930's prompt if that works well. I can move The Women's March: A Novel of the 1913 Women's Suffrage Procession to the prompt for PUBLISHED IN THE 1910'S & then move Mansi book to fill the prompt YEAR OR DATE IN THE TITLE if that works better than the way it is currently........ I then can read Remember Me? which takes place in 2007 :) Just let me know what you think would work the best for coverage please :)
Again, thank you so much for staying on top of the spreadsheet!! You are awesome!!

And, to the entire team you all are doing an amazing job!! We are looking good to fill all the prompts!! I am SO excited about this!!
GREAT JOB!!!
HAPPY READING!!!

message 70: by Janine (last edited Jul 23, 2025 10:31AM) (new)

Janine | 1566 comments Amazing Mary, well done! The good thing about Build the Life You Want is that it was published in 2020s so if we do manage to fill all the other prompts, we can move it from non-prompt to bonus and get an extra 50pts for it 🤞

No problem, Lisa Marie. It was an accident and easily fixed :) I'm sure your grandson thought he was helping and doing very good work. So sweet!
Your plan sounds like a good one. No one else has jumped in with a 1910s book planned so I'll make those moves. Thanks!

I've picked up The Wonderful Wizard of Oz as a nice short classic I've never read published in 1900 so that covers that prompt. We now only have two prompts unplanned for so we'll see how everyone's reading goes in the coming days :)

Unplanned/missing:

* Set in two or more time periods x1 OR 1920s, OR 1970s OR 1980s OR 1990s OR older main character OR containing time travel OR future decade. So many swaps possible for this one!

* Published or set in 1960s x1 OR 1940s, OR year or date in title

message 71: by bailey, Challenges (new)

bailey (bailsbookshelves) | 1229 comments I could probably listen to The Great Gatsby before Sunday is over for the 1920s prompt if we wanted to move some books around. I’ll let you take the lead, Janine!

message 72: by KSMary (last edited Jul 23, 2025 06:40AM) (new)

KSMary | 306 comments Janine - I can pick up another 1920's book that is short and finish it Flying Too High unless Bailey just wants to read The Great Gatsby.
Edit: I found a 1940's book that I can use. I can pick it up at the library after work The Queen's Accomplice

message 73: by Janine (last edited Jul 26, 2025 04:44AM) (new)

Janine | 1566 comments Thank you both!

Bailey if you are able to listen to the Great Gatsby for 1920s (swapped with Skeleton Crew for two or more time periods), and Mary if you read The Queen's Accomplice for 1940s (swapped with Slaughterhouse-Five for 1960s) then that'd have us fully covered with planned books. Hooray! I'll make those swaps on the spreadsheet.

If anyone is worried they're not going to complete one of their planned books, please share here and we'll see if anyone can help out. I can probably squeeze another book in at the weekend :)

If you want an easy way to see what you had planned, either check your column in the tracking tab, or this list which I think is up to date as of right now:

Lisa Marie:
- A Moveable Feast (older adult main character)
- Sold on a Monday (day of the week or month)
- Rules of Civility (1930s)
- Point of Origin (1990s)
- Remember Me? (2000s)

Janine:
- The Wonderful Wizard of Oz (1900s)
- Kindred (1970s)
- While the Light Lasts and Other Stories (1990s)

Mary:
- The Queen's Accomplice (1940s)
- The Chelsea Girls (1950s)

Bailey:
- The Girl Who Loved Tom Gordon (decade you were born)
- The Great Gatsby (1920s)
- I Was a Teenage Slasher (1980s)
- Carrot Cake Murder (2000s)

Kate:
- Station 11 (future decade)
- The Midnight Library (unit of time)
- Miss Peregrin's Home (1940s)
- City of Angels OR Mostly Void, Partially Stars (2010s)

Mansi:
- No Name in the Street (memoir by someone born in a different decade)
- Vanishing World (future decade)
- Toxic: Women, Fame and Tabloid 2000s (year or date in title)
- Cleopatra and Frankenstein (2000s)

Rachael:
- The Last Hour Between Worlds (unit of time)

I had that problem with a few books in the last readathon, but luckily not with this one. I've been able to fit in books that I was going to read for another challenge or was able to fit into the other challenge at the same time.

I finished The Chelsea Girls last night.

Everyone is doing such an awesome job!! WAY TO GO!!!

I finsihed Point of Origin to fill a book for PUBLISHED IN THE !1990'S and Sold on a Monday to fill a book for A YEAR OR DATE IN THE TITLE :) I did go add them to the tracking page :)

I started Rules of Civility for a book for PUBLISHED OR SET IN THE 1930'S and Remember Me? for a book for PUBLISHED OR SET IN THE 2000'S
I will be starting A Moveable Feast for a book with A OLDER ADULT MAIN CHARACTER later today as I will be finsihing one of the books here shortly!! I then will look for books to fill the BONUS PROMPTS :) I believe that is where I need to go next....RIGHT???

Again, you all are doing such an awesome job reading and staying on top of the spreadsheet!! WOO HOO!!!

HAPPY READING!!!

Janine | 1566 comments I finished The Light That Lasts and Other Stories (1990s) and am close to finishing Kindred (1970s).

Well done everyone! Rachael I hope it picks up soon and isn't too much of a slog to get through!

It is 2020s books for the bonus prompts next, unless anyone needs help covering for books they don't think they'll finish in time. Mansi hasn't checked in since Sunday but did say they were on track then so hopefully still are.

Janine | 1566 comments We're heading into the final weekend and looking good!

Thanks for the update Mansi. Well done for squeezing reading into your busy week :)

I finished (and loved!) Kindred.

message 82: by bailey, Challenges (new)

bailey (bailsbookshelves) | 1229 comments Ended up starting Gatsby last night so I’m definitely on track to finish it by Sunday! Are there any other prompts we need help with? I can try and find a quick audiobook to squeeze in for the end of my weekend.

message 83: by Janine (new)

Janine | 1566 comments We currently have all prompts covered and so far everyone has checked in to say they're on track except Kate who we haven't heard from in a few days, but might just be busy and hopefully check in at the weekend.

The ideal is if you have a book published in 2020s set in another time period or fitting another prompt. That way it could be bonus points or gives us coverage/other swaps if needed! I've got a couple of these on my kindle (20 Minutes On The Tube for unit of time or You Should Be So Lucky for 1960s) so I might squeeze one in.

message 84: by Rachael (last edited Jul 25, 2025 10:15AM) (new)

Rachael (allons-y-bookworm) | 4815 comments I'm hoping to finish my current read shortly. message 85: by KSMary (new)

KSMary | 306 comments I finished a non-prompt book The Woman in Cabin 10 although it was published in 2016 in case someone doesn't finish a book that is planned there.

message 86: by Lisa Marie (new)

Lisa Marie Kemmerer (readingwithlisamarie) | 676 comments Hello and Happy Friday Tome Travellers!!

I see from the comments everyone is doing an amazing job and it looks like we will be able to fill every prompt and possibly get in a few for the bonus prompt :)
GREAT JOB EVERYONE!!!!

I will be finishing up Remember Me? and Rules of Civility by the end of the night. I started on A Moveable Feast also and will have that finished by tomorrow :) I then can read a book or two for the BONUS PROMPT or to fill the NON_PROMPT prompt.....which would be better for the team?? What do you think Janine??

We still have until Sunday, July 27 at midnight (where you live) to read books to fill prompts!! Keep up the awesome job everyone!!

HAPPY READING!!!

message 87: by Janine (last edited Jul 26, 2025 04:52AM) (new)

Janine | 1566 comments If you’re choosing between the two Lisa Marie, bonus prompt is always better than non-prompt. Bonus prompt gives 50pts plus page points. Non-prompt gives just page points.

I started reading 20 Minutes On The Tube which is a 2020s bonus prompt book, but also can be backup for unit of time if needed.

Not long left, well done everyone so far!

message 88: by Lisa Marie (new)

Lisa Marie Kemmerer (readingwithlisamarie) | 676 comments Thank you Janine!! I will pick a book that fits the BONUS PROMPT then!!

I just finished Rules of Civility for the prompt PUBLISHED OR SET IN THE 1930's and I will be finishing A Moveable Feast this afternoon. Now , to decide what book to read next!! I am having SO much fun doing this READATHON!!

Thank you all SO much for all the amazing reading you all have done!! GREAT JOB!!! We have until tomorrow at midnight wherever you live to finish up!!

HAPPY READING!!

Janine | 1566 comments We have completed 7 single prompts, 5 double prompts and 6 triple prompts. We're so close with only 8 more books needed!

To update, here are the remaining planned books:

Lisa Marie:
- A Moveable Feast (older adult main character)

Bailey:
- The Great Gatsby (1920s)

Kate:
- Station 11 (future decade)
- The Midnight Library (unit of time - backup by Janine - 20 Minutes on the Tube)
- Miss Peregrin's Home (1940s - backup by Rachael - The Stranger)
- City of Angels OR Mostly Void, Partially Stars (2010s backup completed by Mary - The Woman in Cabin 10)

Mansi:
- No Name in the Street (memoir by someone born in a different decade)
- Vanishing World (future decade)

As we haven't heard from Kate in a while, I sent a quick message to check in :)

message 90: by Rachael (last edited Jul 26, 2025 11:08AM) (new)

Rachael (allons-y-bookworm) | 4815 comments I am going to read The Stranger as a back up for 1940s if that helps. I'll add the pages I've read of my other book for page points

message 91: by Janine (last edited Jul 26, 2025 01:10PM) (new)

Janine | 1566 comments That's a great idea Rachael. Backups are good as they can always count as page points if we're doubled up and increase our chances of completing all the prompts :)

message 92: by Lisa Marie (new)

Lisa Marie Kemmerer (readingwithlisamarie) | 676 comments Hello Tome Travellers!!!

I finished A Memorable Feast for the prompt AN OLDER ADULT MAIN CHARACTER and I have added it to the tracking spreadsheet.

I started Nine Lives to fill in a book for the BONUS PROMPT or NON-PROMPT book :) I also think I can read one more book.....is there a prompt that I can help fill Janine?? I see several that have books that are planned so I am not sure. I will go through my library at home and see if I have any books that can be back-ups for any of the planned books. And, then that can be used for NON-PROMPT/NUMBER OF PAGES if needed :)

You all have done such an awesome job!! WAY TO GO!!!

Also, thank Janine for all your hard work in keeping the spreadsheet update and all of us updated on what was needed!! I appreciate ever so much!! And, thank you so much for reaching out to Kate!! Any word back yet??

I will check back in a few to see if there are any updates to the spreadsheet :)

HAPPY READING!!

message 93: by KSMary (last edited Jul 26, 2025 04:13PM) (new)

KSMary | 306 comments I finished The Wager: A Tale of Shipwreck, Mutiny and Murder today which could be a back up for a Historical NF book and Rocket Boys: A Memoir could be moved to a memoir written by someone born in a different decade.
This book was also published in 2023 so could be used for a bonus book

I think from Janine's post that the only books that we don't have backup for are the 2 for set in a future decade.

I am in the process of reading The Midnight Library. I have had a busy week doing summer things with family. I should have it finished by the end of the weekend. I'm not sure about the other three books I have on my list.

Lisa Marie Kemmerer (readingwithlisamarie) | 676 comments Hello Tome Travellers
Hope everyone is well!! I just read that Kate my not be able to get to the other three books we have planned so...I see that the one prompt we don't have a backup for is SET IN A FUTURE DECADE which we have STATION ELEVEN planned. I will read PARABLE OF THE SOWER to fill that and if we don't need it for that prompt it can be put in the NON-PROMPT category :)
We still have until midnight (wherever you live) on Sunday, July 27th to finish reading!!

You all are doing an amazing job!!

HAPPY READING!!

KSMary | 306 comments I finished Going Rogue: Rise and Shine Twenty-Nine which is a book published in the 2020's.

I don't have anything for a book set in a future decade for a second book at home but I found a short book that I can pick up at the library tomorrow that I think would work Full Speed to a Crash Landing

message 97: by Rachael (last edited Jul 27, 2025 12:52AM) (new)

Rachael (allons-y-bookworm) | 4815 comments I will switch my book to the 1940s prompt so Kate doesn't have to stress about completing all of her planned books in time. I've checked my TBR and unfortunately I don't think I have any books that fit the other prompts we are missing so I'll carry on with my 2020s published book today.

message 98: by Janine (last edited Jul 27, 2025 08:00AM) (new)

Janine | 1566 comments Thanks for checking in and updating us Kate :) I can see you completed Midnight Library and updated it in the spreadsheet, that's great!

That's brilliant, thanks Rachael for completing that 1940s book.

Mary I moved The Woman in Cabin 10 from non-prompt to 2010s. Thank you for reading that, a very handy backup! If you are able to read Full Speed to a Crash Landing that could really help for Kate's future decade book. Let us know if you don't think you'll manage it.

Lisa Marie - unfortunately Parable of the Sower won't fit the future decade prompt. It's set in the 2020s so not a future decade. I read the sequel recently so I remembered! It can still fit the bonus prompt though.

We are so close! These are our remaining books:

Bailey:
- The Great Gatsby (1920s)

Kate:
- Station 11 (future decade - possible backup Mary Full Speed to a Crash Landing)

Mansi:
- No Name in the Street (memoir by someone born in a different decade - back up completed by Mary via swaps - Rocket Boys to memoir, The Wager to historical nonfiction)
- Vanishing World (future decade)

Both Bailey and Mansi have said they're on track to finish in previous updates so I am really hopeful we might complete all the prompts, thanks to everyone's hard work and willingness to read backups. You're all stars!

bailey (bailsbookshelves) | 1229 comments Great job, Tome Travellers!!

I’m on track to finish The Great Gatsby today (about 1.5h listening time left) but I probably won’t finish anything else today. I’ve had such a great time reading with you all and getting caught back up on my reading challenges. This has been an incredible team to be a part of and I’m so grateful for all of you 🤗
