GR issue? not getting notifications

It's happening to many members. The issues are being discussed in another group I'm participating:glitches
I hope this helps.
Cindy, this has been going on for many of us here at GR since October. Many people have contacted Goodreads to notify them of the problem and ask them to remedy it. Goodreads passively refuses to address this problem. So far, the GR groups like PBT have not been affected by it.I have seen that conversation and posts are way down on individuals' reviews. (Sneakily, I think that GR is saving money this way and therefore, it's a plus for them.)
It's made the overall GR experience less satisfying to me. I miss the give and take of discussions with my GR friends on individual reviews.
Basically this tells me that what GR and its parent Amazon seek is for those of us using GR to be forced to be proactive rather than reactive - meaning not just engaging when you receive notification that same has commented or liked your review, but you need to go in and look yourself regularly. Why would they do this? It exposes you to their advertising and promotions far more. That's my take. Meantime, as long as I check at the bottom of each review I post that I want notification, I get it. I don't ask for it on all. It's working fine for me.

I can't see the thread because it blocks anyone who isn't a member.
I have not gotten email notifications in a very long time, and I did check my settings, they are sent for me to get them. I have missed a lot of replies and updates on what is going on Goodreads.
Thanks, everyone. Not just me, though I think it only started recently for me. Too bad they don't want to make GR a better experience (or, not necessarily better, just up to par, rather than not fixing things when they break) overall.

Sorry I didn't distinguish in my original post.
Some people said they took off notifications and put them back on and then they worked, at least for a while.I rarely use notifications myself so I haven't missed them.

Robin P wrote: "I rarely use notifications myself so I haven't missed them."The main thing for me is if someone comments on a review I've posted here. I don't wade through all the threads to see if anyone else has commented, so I rely on the notifications for that.
And for our PBT admin group - I rely on notifications for that, as well (much of the time... it's not as busy so if I notice on my "groups" page that there are new comments, I'll check, but I don't always notice).
ETA: It also bothers me that I need to (now) manually hit the check box for a thread I created myself. I can see having to check the box on a thread created by someone else, but if it's a thread I've created, it should default to being checked, in my opinion.
CHECK YOUR PROFILE PAGE ... see when it says you were last active (I just checked mine and it says "June 2025")To reset that log in you have to log out ... on ALL devices (so if you use a phone and a tablet and a desktop ... be sure to log out on all of them). Then log back in and your "notifications settings' should reset and you should start getting them again.
When this was first brought to my attention (in the group Algernon linked to above), my profile said I was last active in October 2024! (This was in February, I think.) I logged out, and re-logged in. I have been in the habit (for years) of never logging out. Now I try to remember to log out and back in again at least once a month.
Of course, I check all my groups several times a week (if not daily), so I'm not missing much.
Great tip, BC. Checked my profile page and it also said I was last active in October 2024. Not that I have notifications set for most things but that could well be the answer for those who do. Must have been a buggy software update in the background that unexpectedly froze people’s activity status.

Thanks, Tessa. My profile said, "Last active in October, 2024." This is when the notifications stopped for me.
I had tried logging off and then on in the past, but I must have done it incorrectly. I tried again just now (using instructions, this time.) My profile has been reset.
I'll be interested if I get notifications again. I just got my first one.
I checked my profile and it showed my last login was last month. Your last login also impacts when you click on members and it shows when you were on last. Since I was logged in back in June, when you look at the members page in our group for last online, my name never showed up that I was posting in PBT. It may not matter much but it does make me wonder how many notifications I have missed.
This would explain why in some groups the moderator shows “ last login was “x” but their profile shows they might have started a book yesterday. Does this also impact a members active participation in groups? Do mods check periodically about that?

Something that has fixed some of the glitches is when people sign out of Goodreads on all of their devices. I'm not sure if that helps with updates as well, because it's been a while since I've been in a discussion about this.I get my notifications, as far as I know, but then I also check my groups regularly, so if I'm missing any, I haven't noticed. I've greatly limited them; I get none for busy groups like PBT, so come here and check when I'm on GR (I do usually remember to check my reviews so I can receive notifications if anyone comments.)
Book Concierge wrote: "CHECK YOUR PROFILE PAGE ... see when it says you were last active (I just checked mine and it says "June 2025") ..."That's crazy! March 2025 mine says! (Obviously this is not the case, as I am here posting now and have posted with this question in the past few days!)
Do I need to log off on all devices before logging back in to any of them, or can I do one at a time (log off, then back on here... log off, then back on on tablet 1, log off, then back on on tablet 2)? I assume I have to be logged off on all three all at once before logging back in on any of them, but thought I'd ask. Thanks.
Log OFF on ALL devices. Then Log back in one device at a time. That should reset your "last active" date, and restart your notifications.
Mine shows last active January 2025 but I think I'll leave it that way, since I don't want them. I can still see them under the "bell" icon.
Robin P wrote: "Mine shows last active January 2025 but I think I'll leave it that way, since I don't want them. I can still see them under the "bell" icon."They won't necessarily show up under the "bell" icon, either.
LibraryCin wrote: "Hi, I didn't expand further in the subject line, but I've noticed that I haven't been getting a notification if someone comments on a thread I started, including when I have checked the box to say ..."Same here — I've been noticing the notification silence for months, no bell notifications, even when I’ve ticked the boxes.
I'll give the full logout on all devices a try.....if it reboots the notification system, it's worth a shot.
I seem to get a lot of notifications for posts from my most active groups. I recall a short period last year when I missed active posts, but not since. But I might be missing some of those other things without knowing it.

Thank you!
This is a pain. I'm wondering if I'm signed in on my work PC (unlikely, but sometimes I forget to sign out after lunch), I have a couple of browsers on each tablet, though I usually only use one. I do see that "last active" date (well, it's now "this month") has changed, so hopefully that's a good sign.
Thanks, BC!

Anyone else seeing this? Thanks
ETA: Meant the notifications directly on this site, via the bell in the top right. I'm not worried about email notifications.
