Chelsea | 18 comments We are over half way through the year! The next book is None of This is True by Lisa Jewell! Can’t wait to dive in!

Vanessa Monn (vlmonn) | 14 comments I read this one at the end of last year. LOVED IT! Can’t wait to hear how others enjoyed!

Jennifer Campbell | 20 comments I loved this one as well! I have so many thoughts. But overall, I appreciated the characters and their development, the story was riveting, and it really highlighted domestic abuse, generational trauma, and so many other difficult but interesting topics. I will wait to post more, I have so much, I need to gather my thoughts 🤪

Victoria Dempster | 41 comments Finishing a book then will start this one in the coming days! So excited, especially now after seeing Jennifer and Vanessa’s praise for it!

Jennifer Campbell | 20 comments I keep thinking back on this book. Maybe because I’m listening to another audiobook narrated by the same person, but still. SPOILERS AHEAD

This story dug deep into lots of topics I am passionate about. So many topics have been taboo or off limits, but it’s important to showcase more stories like this, that maybe not excuse people’s behaviour, but may at least provide insight into why they acted this way. Generational trauma, grooming, gaslighting, family secrets, all sorts of abuse were talked about here.

I was very angry at one point, when Alix said something along the lines of “I know we’re supposed to believe victims but…”. I’m glad she said it, because lots of people think it. I just was really worried it would end with Josie being painted as this crazy lady who went off the deep end all of a sudden, when the author had done such a great job at this point imo to show many sides of a twisted story. The end completely made up for it, I was so relieved!!

I have so much more I could say about the is one.

I just finished this book! I will write more comments later but guess what I found?

A bonus chapter!!!

The link to the bonus is here:

Victoria Dempster | 41 comments Omg there’s a bonus chapter?? Honestly I really didn’t like this book but the last page definitely redeemed it for me and showed me what the book was about. But I was just soooo mad throughout it haha. My full thoughts are on the review on my page!

message 8: by Chelsea (new)

Chelsea | 18 comments Tori, your review is so good! I love how we all take different things from the book! The feminist take is so true. The author makes us hate Josie at the end but we can’t forget at the ripe age of 13 a man wanted to be with her which would mess up any young teenager. We still don’t know what is true but the author makes us think that whatever Josie is saying is lies.

Victoria Dempster | 41 comments Ok I read the authors Q&A this morning and it actually made me dislike the book more. It just reeks of privilege and stereotypes to me and victimizing these white rich people and making the lower class seem effed up and insane. The author also said in one of her comments she doesn’t write based on themes and finds it weird when people assign themes to her books which just makes me find this whole book grosser because she has no deeper meaning to anything… sorry for being a buzz kill on this one, I did find it interesting!!! 😂

Interesting thoughts Victoria! Thanks for sharing. I have to admit, I didn’t think so deeply about the “themes” or “lack there of themes apparently” haha.

I still really enjoyed reading the book. It was a page-turner.

Did anyone read the bonus chapter? I feel like I didn’t need it.

Jennifer Campbell | 20 comments I’m confused about the bonus chapter? The book I listened to had this in it, so I just thought it was part of the book. So weird! I don’t know how I’d feel if this wasn’t there. I really needed this chapter to wrap things up for me without hurling it across the yard because I was so angry reading half of this book 🤣

Kathryn Clarke | 8 comments Finished this one in two days 😅. I really enjoyed it!! I’m terrible at guessing endings so I feel like I had no idea what was going to happen.

Victoria Dempster | 41 comments Ok I really need to read the bonus chapter. I feel like mine also had it in like you Jenn. Let me go look haha. Maybe it will improve my view of the book
