The book describes the sweet tempo doeloe, the strict class hierarchies in the Indies, the pain of forced departure, and the difficult adaptation to a cold and unfamiliar Netherlands. It helps readers understand the lingering sense of longing—a yearning for a country that no longer exists. Above all, it hopes to enrich both Indo-Dutch people and others with a deeper understanding of their shared history.
