Josephine Nelson | 8 comments I grew up believing I was the author of my own destiny. I was taught that life was mine to design — that with enough faith, planning, and perseverance, I could shape my future into anything I desired.

And for a while, I lived that way. I set goals, made vision boards, and pushed forward with relentless ambition. I thought that was faith — believing in my dreams and building toward them.

But everything changed when I turned 27.

I hit a wall I couldn’t pray or plan my way around. My confidence cracked. Everything I believed — about life, about faith, about God — suddenly didn’t make sense anymore.

I started questioning everything:
— The “God” I had followed.
— The truths I thought were unshakable.
— And even my own worth and direction.

That season broke something in me… but it also exposed a truth I had long ignored:

I was never meant to be the author of my own story.

God was. He always had been. I just didn’t know what surrender really looked like—until I had no choice but to fall into His hands.

This journey, marked by brokenness, healing, and surrender, became the foundation for my book, A Life Written Before Time. If you're in a season of questioning or waiting, or if you're simply trying to find God in the middle of your story, I wrote this for you.
