Ellen | 3549 comments Although Dr. Marc Seidman's marriage seems to be on shaky ground, he is dedicated to his 6-month-old daughter Tara and accepting of his diminished feelings for his wife Monica. Marc's life was upended on the morning an intruder shot and killed Monica, shot Marc twice leaving him for dead, and kidnapping Tara. After several weeks in the hospital Marc is released but is summoned by his wealthy father=in-law Edgar. A ransom call was placed to Edgar's phone demanding two million dollars with a warning that authorities not be notified as there would be no second chance to get Tara back. The money is to be delivered by Marc alone and the kidnappers will be watching. Listening to his lawyer best friend, and against his own better judgment, Marc contacts the police. Unsurprisingly the exchange is a failure and Marc is again told there would be no second chance. Eighteen months pass and Edgar is again the recipient of a ransom demand and this time Marc is determined to handle this on his own. He has no idea the web of lies and danger he is about to step into.

There was certainly a lot going on in this book and I had no idea who the culprit was until the reveal. It was well plotted with several foreshadowing hints that I obviously missed. I enjoyed it.
