Most months we create two nomination threads. The current practice is one for READER and one for either LIMITED or THEMED. The easiest way to do that is to go to the most recent matching nomination thread, copy the top post, then make a new thread in the same folder, paste, and change the month. Themed nomination threads also need to edit the theme.
Threads should be created on or about the 7th of the month prior. For example, if the nominations are for books to be read in April, then we post the threads on March 7th, and use April in the thread title.
Nominations should be checked as time permits. Just one per member per nomination thread. Does it fit the criteria?
It’s a good idea to post a summary comment listing the various nominees and who nominated and seconded each. This helps a lot when the nominations close.
On or about the 22nd, we close nominations and chose the pick. If no book is seconded, the thread goes into sudden death. If only one book is seconded, that’s our pick. If multiple books are seconded, each second counts as one lottery ticket and one ticket is chosen randomly. You can draw them from a hat if you like. Teresa uses an app that can generate a random number from 1 to N, sets the value of N to the number of tickets, and assigns each possible result to one of the nominees, then generates the random number.
After posting on the thread what the pick is, go to the top of the thread and edit the thread to close it for comments.
Repeat for the other nomination thread, then add the books to the bookshelf (see separate post).
