SarahKat | 6223 comments This thread is to discuss Point of Origin, the ninth book in the Kay Scarpetta series by Patricia Cornwell.

Pages: 440 pages

Length: 1 month (July)

Participants: Beth, Susan, Lisa Marie

Everyone reads at their own pace during a Buddy Read. Because participants can be at different parts of the book at different times, it is extremely important to mark spoilers so that the book is not ruined for someone who is not as far along as others!!!

Mark spoilers by placing {spoiler} before the text and {/spoiler} after the text but use the < and > instead of the { and }.

Here are some questions to help get the conversation started! Feel free to look up discussion questions specific to this book or come up with your own. Just make sure any questions that contain spoilers are under spoiler tags.
Discussion questions are not required but may be a fun way to talk about the book and get to know each other!

Prior to starting:
What prompted you to join this buddy read?
Have you read this author before? What do you think of their other books?

Mid-read:
What character or ideas do you relate to the most and why?
Do you have any favorite quotes or scenes?

After reading:
What was enjoyable or not-so-enjoyable about this book?
Did this book change your perception about anything, either within the book (character development) or in real life?

Susan | 575 comments I started listening to Point of Origin this morning. Cornwell doesn't waste anytime getting right into it.

Susan | 575 comments This was my favorite Scarpetta book yet. I enjoyed the technical details of how hot a fire needs to get to burn a house to the ground. (view spoiler)

Lisa Marie Kemmerer (readingwithlisamarie) | 669 comments So, I wanted to joining this BUDDY READ because Patricia Cornwell is one of my favorite murder/mystery authors. I really enjoy her writing....I always feel like I am literally right there helping with the case.
So, yes I have read the entire Kay Scarpetta series before about 10 years ago and she has added so many more books since then that I after seeing that this was going to be a BUDDY READ I thought it was the perfect time to reread the series and read the ones that have been added over the past 10 years :)

What is everyone thinking of the series up to this point??
Anyone else read this series before or anything by Patricia Cornwell?

I fell behind and I will be finishing up Unnatural Exposure on Sunday, July 6th....I am sorry I had a family issue and I have been out of town. Sorry I should of let you all know I was still waiting to be a part of this read but I was slightly behind.

I will start Point Of Origin later on Sunday, July 6th and will check in after I have a few chapters read.

Hope all is well with everyone!!

HAPPY READING!!!

Beth | 1553 comments I read part of the series a long time ago, and I'm enjoying coming back to it now.

I started this one today. And I just got to where they have to go to Lehigh County, PA... that's where I live!!! Yep, Lehigh Valley Hospital is real and is one of the two main hospitals in the area. And yep, our county coroner is an elected official. I don't think I've ever been in a position to fact check location things in a novel before!

Is it me, or is Kay SUPER whiny in this one? Maybe it's the audiobook narrator... it's a new person from who'd done the previous books, so her take is a bit different. But I do not like the Kay that is being portrayed here.

Beth | 1553 comments Wow, is this my favorite Scarpetta novel so far? Yes, it is! Once I got past the whininess (I really do think it was the narrator's voice acting), I got into it completely. It was so engaging especially when the whole trail of how the murders happened was laid out. And the ending... the ending! So, so good.
