Daregross | 4 comments Hello! I found out that this edition of a Ukrainian book https://www.goodreads.com/book/edit/4...) has the wrong ISBN number, so I created a new edition with a correct one (it's this edition: https://www.goodreads.com/book/edit/2...). Could someone please merge these editions?

P.s. this is my first time asking for a merge, so idk if there's anything else I should add to the message for you to make the work easier, so lmk if I should elaborate on anything

David Raz (davidraz) | 12733 comments I see evidence that the original ISBN 9786176141648 is also valid and appropriate for this book. Do you have word from the author or publisher that this ISBN is wrong? We typically don't remove valid ISBNs unless we have ample proof they are completely wrong.

I believe the first edition was published with the wrong ISBN — one that actually belongs to another book by the same publisher released that year. That book was also reprinted in 2022 using the same ISBN, which led me to think the number was originally intended for it. However, the only proof I have of the existence of the ISBN 9786176142010 for the topic-starting book is records from online bookstores that sell a newer edition of it, where the ISBN is corrected. Given this lack of outstanding proof, as well as the fact that the book is widely identifiable by the ISBN 9786176141648, I understand that my merging request is wrong. Apologies for my mistake!

I have another question in this regard. What is Goodreads' policy concerning completely different books that share an ISBN due to a publishing mistake? Do librarians leave it as is, or is there something we should do about it?

David Raz (davidraz) | 12733 comments We create an ISBN reuse edition, which is in essence a librarian note saying the ISBN is reused. If the ISBN resides on the older of the two editions, a superlibrarian can move the ISBN to the newer edition.
