Al's investigation seems to be becoming more personal and less procedural. The case is taking an emotional toll on him understandably. He's dealing not only with a murder but with a legacy of cover-ups, secrets, lies, and corruption.

I really liked this one a lot more than I thought I would. I finished it last night but I was GLUED to the weather station because one of my granddaughters lives in Oahu on the coast and I was worried about them. She has three children, 7, 2, and the baby born on July 4 so I couldn't take my eyes off the muted TV (so I could read) long enough to post.
I thought the way the author showed how power like the Bainbridge family had works so well to actively cover up things like abuse and murder. Reputation becomes too important and is valued over justice which is a shame.
