ReadwithA | 168 comments How many chances do you give a book before you decide to dnf it?

⋆✿Grace✿⋆ | 84 comments Honestly it really depends. I DNF-ed a book bc there was pedophilia so that was easy, but another book I stoped reading it in the middle didn’t pick it up for noice months and continued reading it from there and finished it. I guess it just depends on my mood lol. But I think I would like to give it two tries before DNF-ing it

Kaitlynn Gray | 54 comments I want to start off with sorry that this is really long, but I put someone of my personal experiences in with this.

There are two books I can think of where I had this same feeling:

1. Red Queen
I first picked this up because the cover was intriguing, but I couldn’t get past the first couple of chapters. After asking a friend if she wanted it, she told me that she read it and that it was a great book. So after hearing that I decided to give it another try and now I love the entire series.

2. The Henna Artist
This book was picked in the book club I go to and the summery seemed interesting, so I decided to give it a try. I read the first few pages and wasn’t vibing with it. I told myself I’d read the first chapter and then decide if it was worth it. But the first chapter is 46 pages and after I discovered that I changed my mind and haven’t picked it up since.

But in the end I think it depends on the types of books you usually read. Sometimes you just may need someone to tell you it’s worth the read and other times even that may not help. But in the end it’s whether or not you feel it’s worth your time. But I think it’s best not to force yourself to read something you’re not liking because it will make reading feel like a chore and not enjoyable like it should be

Cassidy | 347 comments I have to see things through so I very rarely DNF a book; typically only if I’m too confused to keep going. That said I sometimes put a book down and pick it back up later! I’ve done this before where I’ve hated a book beginning (mood) and picked it up months or years later and read it in one sitting 🤷‍♀️😂 just depends!

𝑀𝒶𝓃𝒾 ~* | 2 comments I rarely ever do because a lot of books are good just slow, for example once upon a broken heart was cute book took time to get into, for me I’ll read at least 20% of the book, personally I dnf-ed the do-over by lynn painter which is shocking cause I love her books, it just felt like a repetition and was sooo slow and boring

message 7: by That_LilCat (new)

That_LilCat | 17 comments It really depends on why, because I dnf-ed 3 books

1. They Both Die At The End
Reason: Library due date, planning to borrow very soon

2. A Good Girls Guide To Murder
Reason: Just Not My Vibe and Was So Bored

3. Something In The Heir
Reason: Me not knowing any of the words and already confused by page 5

Krisha (krisha_) | 798 comments I try not to dnf, so I end up giving as many chances as I can! but once I feel like continuing a bad book would make me fall into a slump, i dnf.

abby {zoeystery's version} | 175 comments I don't like to dnf books, so I try to finish them. but if I really cant get into it or i just don't understand what's going on, i'll dnf it.

Penny :) | 6 comments Still can't get past page 15 in King of Wrath By: Ana Huang. I've heard such good things, billionaires just scare me 😭

maia ‧₊˚ ⋆ ࣪. ₊ | 7 comments okay personally sometimes i genuinley cant bring myself to finish a book, but i really try to finish all the books i start because there have been times when i started the first book in a series and hated the first half and had to force myself to read it but then by the time j finished i was obsessed and was begging for the next book (kotlc and inheritance games)

Dami Ayomide | 1 comments Hi guys! I totally get this! As a beta reader, I’ve seen how much pacing and structure in the early chapters of Red Queen can make or break a reader’s interest. Some books just don’t hit at the right time, and that’s okay!

Giselle⊹ ࣪ ˖ (semi hiatus) (luvliorca) | 15 comments I don’t really dnf books but I did with Summer I Turned Pretty, it wasn’t for me and Mein Kampf, I only read a few pages out of curiosity and the writing wasn’t good

message 16: by rosie xo (new)

rosie xo (sheluvsbooksxo) | 13 comments If I don't personally see myself enjoying the book or if I want to take a break to pick it back up later on.
But I rarely dnf because I have to see a book through!

AC's | 411 comments Only one, honestly. I can get through 20 to 50 pages maximum, but sometimes I just dnf at 5%, whoops

message 19: by Ariana (new)

Ariana | 14 comments I rarely dnf but I started Divergent last week and dnfd at 50%. I was going to finish the series but I can't stand Tris (don't hate me 😂.)

mila | 38 comments i dnfd dance of theives and believe it or not, POWERLESS but then i was like ugh fine and i absolutely loved the rest of it.

jewelruby ☆˚.⋆ (jewelruby) | 21 comments Honestly, I'll try to read a book every few days for months, even if it's only 2-3 pages at a time, until I finish it. I hate having to DNF but when I do, when I really can't get through a book, even a few pages at a time. It probably takes 20-30 tries before I give up

message 22: by Maria Grace (new)

Maria Grace Combs | 2 comments I dnf Babel I got bored of it around 30%.

message 23: by Iheartbooks219 (new)

Iheartbooks219 | 7 comments I dnf'd One Dark Window, mainly because it drags and it's not what I was used to. I mostly read DR, but I wanted to get into Fantasy and that was not it for me. I also think remembering it was third person POV and I can't get jiggy with that. "I" literally need to be in the story or else I'm just disconnected.

I dnf'd Vicious by L.J Shen. Boring and just not enough to keep my attention.

Well unless it's an audiobook without me following along, then I can handle it like Scarlett St. Clair's books.
