Do you have to read Caraval to read once upon a broken heart?

I got once upon a broken heart at the library without realizing it was a prequel to Caraval do I have to read Caraval to understand it?

i would say that it’s easier to understand if you’ve read caraval, but i read it without having read caraval and enjoyed it 🫶

I would read caraval first because you know the characters better and the story gets spoiled if you read ouabh. caraval is an amazing series
