i feel like most american/western european foods can but branching off into other cuisines, especially panasian, i feel like it's harder to categorize them.

exactly, it makes no sense to say that, like maaaaybe i can see how rice could be a soup (because like when you eat it with some sauce or whatever it turns into a soup...? maybe) but singular foods such as grains and fruits and vegetables can't, maybe actual meals can? like for example a cake is a sandwhich because it is often between two layers with stuff (whipcream, buttercream, etc) and u eat it like that?

yeah, theer's simply no way that every food could be categorized as one of the three. like, what if you're eating meat but itself? or fruits or vegetables? like, just because you can make a salad, soup or sandwich, with practically everything, that isn't always the way you eat it. like, for example, an apple.

audacious attempt at categorization incominggggg
the only reasonable arguments in favor of a dumpling being a sandwich is the fact that both encase a filling in a starch-based casing, both are portable and bite-sized, and if calzones or empanadas can sneak into the sandwich category, why not dumplings? a crazy stretch of logic that ignores culinary whatever but i meeannnnn

theoretically it could be! Wraps are considered sandwiches right? And that’s like dumplings, multiple ingredients wrapped in something else? So kind of sandwich-esque (I can’t spell sandwich this took too long)
