Thanks for the article - a good read on 4th of July. I finished the book last night and it was excellent start to finish. I will now wait impatiently for volume III.

I have made progress and gotten through chapter 18

Chapter 12

Well, it was nice to hear that Marie and Charles were trying their best to produce an heir 😄(not really). Insanity that for some obscure reason the doctor got a bonus for delivering a boy!

Chapter 17

Hancock bringing a movable cellar of wine with him on campaign. These obscure facts are what make reading Atkins a joy.

It is hard to comprehend how vicious some of the British attacks were. I say British, but Atkins does say the Americans began to retaliate. Sort of like a child -" he started it!"

Hancock's mobile wine cellar reminds me of Confederate General Nathan George "Shanks" Evans who had an aide follow him around on the battlefield with a whiskey cask attached to his back.

Now the long wait till volume III... In the interim we can look forward to Ken Burn's Revolutionary War documentary coming out this fall.

Well I'm not getting to read this for quite a while, so I'm not reading reviews. BUT glad to see all the high ratings!

I at least will have a slightly less long wait. Atkinson did say at the end of the last talk I went to that he hasn't started it yet, he's getting older, and this one took 6 years so figure at least 6 years. At that point I figured I don't need to try cramming reading it into the next few months. LOL.

Oh and I should mention that I'm probably the only person on the planet who does not like Burns' documentaries -- beyond the first episode. That's ok - I know many who do. I am fine with being alone in my dislike.

But should there be another -- you are not alone!
