How do I get better at writing stories?

I feel like any time I try to write a story it doesn’t really flow, or like go together and is really choppy. I also don’t ever really know what to write about, but I love writing. Any tips?

my golden rule of writing is that - if it doesn't advance the plot, don't add it. that internal dialogue about right vs wrong or how much the fmc loves the color blue or smth like that? as poetic as it sounds and as long as it took to write it, it just makes it weird and choppy in some parts
i'd also recommend checking out common plot structures and things bc when im in a writing mood i just throw things on the page because i have a lot of ideas. but random ideas thrown together makes it look incredibly messy so separate all the ideas, figure out the plot structure (rising action, climax, setting the exposition etc) and then write. it flows SO much better when you figure out a good structured plot trust me! though its really hard and i lose motivation some times 😔😔

JUST WRITE and write and absorb as much content as possible , I believe when the basic thing is written you go back to it or go to another piece u don't really have to like it you just have to let it flow and practise alot, and it could just be few sentences a day so that u start to build like a sense of your own voice .

Pinterest has good plot structures or basics for diff genres / guides and u can read books to get inspired but these things should come after you have found your writing or you have managed to get in a flow , idk if this makes sense , but it worked for me as in u just put the basic raw cringe thing , just plain old you . then as u practise or get inspo u start to build momentum and every sentence starts to improve u sort of let the words replace with the voice that flows.
