Next up is Lyn!
Lyn, you can either steal #5 from Joy, or open any other number between 1 and 9.

9. A book by a Nobel Prize Winner
Theresa, you are up next! You may steal #9 or #5, or you may select from 1,3, 4-8.
I am stealing the Bram Stoker one from Joy. I have a book I want to read that won it, so yay!Sorry for the delay. Work was dominating my time.
I knew that if someone stole Joys she would go with the nobel prize winner. And i had ahunch that Theresa would want the Bram Stoker
Joy D wrote: "Anita, I picked #5, so I think the numbering in your post needs adjusting."THANK YOU!!!
Lyn wrote: "Not a horror fan, so I will take number 9."Lyn, it's your turn again! You may steal 5, or you may open 1-4 or 6-8. (9 is off limits)
MelanieJoy wrote: "I submitted Bram Stoker so I’m so thankful I don’t have to get it!"Lol, just a heads up, Melanie - - you are going to be next after Lyn takes her turn (and all the stealing settles down).
Booknblues wrote: "I knew that if someone stole Joys she would go with the nobel prize winner. And i had ahunch that Theresa would want the Bram Stoker"
I'm not really a horror fan at all - avoid most horror. But not all Bram Stoker winners are primarily horror that I won't read. There are many that have also won prizes as crime fiction, for example, especially before 2010. I do like Gothic though which I describe as horror light - as in a bit creepy rather than screaming.
Lyn wrote: "Okay, I had a feeling that would happen. I will open number 3."Lyn, you have opened:
3.Read the fiction bestseller from the year you were born. If already read it, read the fiction bestseller from the year an immediate family member was born.
MelanieJoy wrote: "Good morning! I’ll open #6 please."Awesome! The prompt you have opened is:
6. Read a fairytale retelling
Up next . . .BooknBlues!!You may steal any of the following:

Phew! I will have to do some searching.

This should help. Though I should warn you that I might want to steal it later!

There are a surprising number of books on that list.
Amy! You are up next:
You may steal any of the following:
1. A book with a fruit or vegetable in the title.

Joy D wrote: "That list includes the author's name, though - not just the title. Just FYI."The vowels list. Good catch - thanks Joy! Sorry Fran.
LoL everyone-believe it or not I did submit a tag....I guess I will be last and get my own tag again, because it is still not called 🤣😂.

FYI that's currently on either Popsugar or ATY 2025 challenge prompts - they will have listopias and a discussion thread if you belong to any of those groups on GR.
Robin P wrote: "Neither my name nor may tag have been called, so I was thinking the same, Joanne!"Joanne wrote: "LoL everyone-believe it or not I did submit a tag....I guess I will be last and get my own tag again, because it is still not called 🤣😂."
You two must be the last after Amy.
Joanne, weren’t you first last time?
I didn't participate last time but it looked like fun. I think there's an issue with this one:
3.Read the fiction bestseller from the year you were born. If already read it, read the fiction bestseller from the year an immediate family member was born. -
It's not always clear what was the bestseller of a whole year, and some were children's books, diet books, or books that are no longer in print. For the year my son was born, the #1 book was apparently a novelization of the movie E.T. !
I wonder if Lyn, who proposed this, would accept A best-selling book from the year rather than THE best-selling book. You can find NY Times best-selling books by week for the whole year. I've already done a challenge where I had to read a book on the bestseller list from the month and year I was born and it wasn't easy to find.

The names listed next to the prompts are all people in the swap, so I’m guessing someone else originally wrote that prompt, not Lyn. When I googled it, I got many conflicting answers and lists. I would agree that “a” best seller is more reasonable.

Thanks, I see what you mean, Lyn submitted it for the swap - good call, I would have too! But we don't know who originally thought it up. Frankly, I have no memory of which ones I submitted (but I'm sure that isn't one of them.)
Thanks for asking that question about the best seller. I did not submit that prompt for the game or the swap, but I did open it. And I was wondering how I could find THE bestselling book the year I was born. So I appreciate the discussion about what would fit.
MelanieJoy wrote: "We’re we allowed to submit more than 1?"Yes! If you link in the pinned rules, Anita has link to form and encourages to keep submitting all year to keep options picked by randomizer fresh.
I have submitted lits and often see one the most recent pop up immediately on a list generated by Anita.
I am having a lot of fun seeing who gets them, LOL.
I just have to say, I don't see a lot of stealing happening which made the first time such fun. I am feeling absolutely shunned since I stole the Bram Stoker one. *pout*
Theresa wrote: "MelanieJoy wrote: "We’re we allowed to submit more than 1?"Yes! If you link in the pinned rules, Anita has link to form and encourages to keep submitting all year to keep options picked by random..."
But I think only one to the swap...
Best Seĺlers - since I was born in 1955, I have no doubt it was Lolita which I read when this popped up in Popsugar not long ago. Actually reread it.I use NY Times for these as it is easiest to find. I also take opposite position than discussed: that whoever submitted this had NYTimes in mind or would have specified a list.

Here's how the prompt swap will work.
- The order of play will be generated at random.
- The first person will select a number from a list of numbers that I provide. Each number is affiliated with a prompt. I, then, announce which prompt the first person has opened.
- The second person can either steal the open prompt from the first person. Or, they may pick a new number and open a new prompt. If they steal the first person's prompt, then the first person has the opportunity to select a new number.
- The third person may then steal either one of the opened prompts, or select a new number to open.
We continue ad infinitum until all the prompts are opened and distributed.
Each person may possess a given prompt no more than three times total.
