Thank you Jenny! My library only has Mr. Breakfast so I'll start there but hopefully I can get them to get Sleeping in Flame

message 53: by Jenny (new)

Jenny | 2239 comments A friend of mine just finished Mr. Breakfast, which she had borrowed from me. She doesn't want to return it, so she can reread it and pass it on to some other people.
So, I told her to keep it and I will buy my third copy. I can't even remember how many copies of Sleeping in Flame I have bought and given away, or Outside the Dog Museum. Clearly I am an addict, and hopefully my addiction keeps Mr. Carroll in enough cornflakes to be able to keep writing.

We should compare notes on The Tainted Cup, as clearly we will both be reading that soon.

Also, should I get the Harriet Tubman book in print or audio?

Okay hardcover for Sleeping in Flame is less than 8 dollars and has a delightfully weird cover. I think I'm gonna purchase

Would love to compare notes for the Tainted Cup!

I liked the audio for Harriet Tubman a lot. It's read by the Author and he is a drag queen so a very natural performer.

message 55: by Jenny (new)

Jenny | 2239 comments Audio it is! I loved watching Bob on Drag Queen, so I am looking forward to this one.
Yay on the book purchase. I so hope you fall in love with Carroll's mesmerizing writing.

I just finished "The One and Only Bob". At times, it was laugh out loud funny and at other times, I wanted to cry. Over all, a really good book. I will be starting "To Sleep in a Sea of Stars" shortly.

I finally finished "To Sleep In A Sea of Stars". A 32 hours and 29 minutes audiobook. It was really worth it! The narration was exceptional and the ending was a complete surprise. Very, very good. Thanks for the pick.

Great to hear you liked it! I want to read it more than ever now haha. I have read a couple other books from Paolini and really enjoyed them, so when I saw this in your TBR I had to pick it 😉

I haven't read the books you picked for me yet, but I plan to as soon as I finish the ones I am reading right now. I look forward to it!

The Chosen (Black Dagger Brotherhood, #15) by J.R. Ward

Book - The Chosen
Date Read - 6/28/25
Rating - 5 Stars
Review - WOW! There was a lot going on here and every male in the mansion seems to have lost their ever-loving minds. Quinn is in asshole mode from the very start and almost winds up losing everything after having a hissy fit and putting a few bullets into a wall in the mansion. He's not my favorite brother so if he went by the wayside, I felt there would have been no loss there. Blay deserves someone who is not quite a hot headed asshole. Layla fucks up and everyone is pissed at her, but in all honesty she couldn't help it. Tohr is not over the loss of Wellsie and acts like a shit and goes against an order from Wrath which almost gets him kicked out. Fucking Vicious...Geez dude, what is going on in that head of yours? I think you better figure your self out. Poor Wrath spent the entire book playing babysitter and refereeing the conflicts in the house. I felt kinda bad for him. Lassiter has something new going on and Fritz is cleaning up after the brothers still. The guy gets the girl in the end along with some new digs and the Lessers are making a comeback..

Whew!

I have now finished both books. Thank you so much for the picks! I would have put off reading The Old Man and the Sea way longer if you had not picked it for me. I did not like it much, but I am glad to have read it. Howl's Moving Castle was very cute and comforting, I enjoyed it 😊
