Crazy Chipmunks of Chaos have lobbed cheese into your tower!

Pecorino

Pecorino cheese is an Italian cheese made from sheep's milk, particularly the milk of the Sardinian breed of sheep known as "Pecora" in Italian, from which it gets its name.

Pecorino cheese has a unique and robust flavour that sets it apart from other types of cheese. It has a tangy, saline feel with slight nutty undertones and a distinct freshness. The flavour intensifies as the cheese matures, developing a sharper and more complex profile. The aging process also contributes to an increasingly firm yet crumbly texture that adds to the overall experience of eating Pecorino.

This is the coral reef book. It's written based on the experience of the author.

Rebecca (rebeccasg) | 3792 comments Also I searched my TBR and The Hazelbourne Ladies Motorcycle and Flying Club works for AZTEC. I will put it on hold at the library, but letting the group know if anyone would be interesting in reading.

Rebecca (rebeccasg) | 3792 comments Also I somehow have only now discovered you can search books with their locations tagged on goodreads here, which might be helpful:

Shannon O'Flynn | 630 comments Hey guys! I'm sure you guys have seen the cheese thrown at us!

This is a new challenge that follows spell-it-out rules. Our first cheese we must spell is PECORINO!

If you have a book with an title, series' name, narrators first/last name, translator's first/last names, author's first/last name, or a character first/last name that matches, it can be used. "A", "An", and "The" at the start of titles can be ignored.

We can use any book finished after May 20th for any of the cheeses that are thrown at us, so please be sure to mark them down on the planning sheet! Me and the rest of the captains will be fitting them in as quickly as possible so the chipmunks don't take away an uncompleted cheese.

In addition, books can be used for the cheese spell-out in addition to another mini challenge task. so please make sure to be marking any useful characters down and the authors first and last name.

Some more info on the challenge:
◈ Each book read can only be used for one letter in the cheese spell-out.
◈ 'Banked' books, or books read before the given spell-out is announced can be used, provided they were finished AFTER the first cheese was thrown (20th May)
◈ Each book read can be used for one of the other Tower Teams mini challenge tasks.
◈ Books can be started at any point since the start of Tower Teams XI (17th May 9am UTC), but must be finished after the first cheese was thrown (20th May).
◈ The usual book length rules apply.
◈ The usual spell-out rules apply.
◈ Each cheese spell-out will have its own spell-out completion time that will remain a mystery. Partial spellings are accepted.
◈ Since spell-out completion times are a mystery, spreadsheets need to be updated as soon as a book for the cheese spell-out is finished. Any book not added to the official team sheet by the cut-off time will not count.
◈ You will gain 5 points for each letter you complete.

Rebecca (rebeccasg) | 3792 comments So I don't know if it will count, but I finished my 5/20 book after they threw the cheese. But I get it if it has to be starting 5/21. I will have a book finished today.

message 112: by Reed (new)

Reed (reedraab) I can start an "N" book today that looks like a quick YA read. I see the time is a mystery but typically how long do we have for these types of challenges? A week? A few days?

So for some reason this only goes through locations that start with A-M.... come on goodreads!

I did find a book I can read for a hard country. I also found a few that I've already read and can recommend for anyone if they want to tackle a hard country:

Bosnia and Herzegovina
People of the Book

Barbados
The Summer Country

Djibouti
Cutting for Stone

Lithuania
Between Shades of Gray

Papua New Guinea
Euphoria

Romania
I Must Betray You

Serbia
The Tiger's Wife

Malta
The Wedding Proposal

Sierra Leone
A Long Way Gone: Memoirs of a Boy Soldier

United Arab Emirates

It just has to be finished after the cheese was thrown so your book will be able to be used!

We have no clue. We may have a better understanding after the first cheese, but the mods have given no hints so far.

Awesome yay! Is there going to be a tab on the spreadsheet? Just wonderful so we can plan what books to read for it.

Also the book I finished yesterday (The Chow Maniac) was used for a mini so it's hidden on the sheet, but just wanted to let you know because I think it would work for a letter.

message 118: by Amanda (new)

Amanda (bookoutbelow) | 696 comments We are just checking every book for every letter so Crow Magic was used! Because there’s an unknown time crunch we’re not going claims for this one.

Amanda (bookoutbelow) | 696 comments Nobody else answered but we discussed and think you’re good. I don’t see anything about characters in NF in the rules here

message 122: by Amanda (new)

Amanda (bookoutbelow) | 696 comments Megan, I did get actual approval on your coral reef book!

Specifically because the entirety of this book is about coral reefs. They did say in general non-fiction doesn't work for character driven tasks and as a counter-example, a non-fic about general oceanic habitats with a chapter on coral reefs would likely not work.

So if the task is really the entirety of the book we can use it (e.g. a bio about Picasso could be used for the artist task)

message 123: by MN Lisa (new)

MN Lisa (lisa713mn) | 760 comments @Haley...the book I'm reading has a sculptor, so if you didn't want to read that I could take it. I didn't know. I'm reading it for a few challenges and currently have it on a spell out....I'll finish it tomorrow.

message 124: by Haley (new)

Haley (haleymadd) | 376 comments I started it but feel free to take it! I wouldn’t be finished for another 2 days or so :)

I’m sure it’ll work for another task!

message 125: by Amanda (new)

message 127: by Amanda (new)

Amanda (bookoutbelow) | 696 comments Perfect!! I am moving mini challenge 1 less because I know a lot of people are going to be picking books specifically because they fit for those odd countries (though I might move the level 1 countries to the other minis if they help us out)

message 128: by Amanda (new)

Amanda (bookoutbelow) | 696 comments And my current book the narrator is an O so tomorrow we should finish our cheese task! (if someone else finishes an O book first let us know)

message 133: by Amanda (new)

Amanda (bookoutbelow) | 696 comments Also for everyone (myself included!) we get page points no matter what so even if you can't fit in any of the minis make sure you're still putting your books up :)

Haley (haleymadd) | 376 comments If none of the books finished work, I’ll be done with one in the next hour and half that works for it

oops yes - still figuring this one out - you know my rate of comprehension takes a few weeks to get up to speed on a new to me challenge.

So all I need to do is put the book where it goes on the planning sheet, and then add it to the tab marked BOOKS and add in the ref code?

So Column G is "Mini Ref" and that's where you'll assign a mini. On each Mini row there's a number in Column A. You'll just plug that number into column G

Pecorino has been knocked out of the tower by the Chipmunks of Chaos lobbing a new cheese through your window!

Ubriaco al Prosecco

Ubriaco Prosecco is a raw cow's milk cheese from the Veneto region in Northeast Italy, home to the Prosecco growing region and several superb sparkling and still wines.

Affectionately called "drunken cheese", the cheese is bathed in gallons of sparkling Prosecco wine along with skins, seeds, and leftovers from the wine-making process. The creamy yet crystalline paste develops delicate floral aromas and hints of pear and golden apple. Ubriaco al Prosecco is a firm moist cheese.
