I’m Kathryn — a fellow author and one of the editors behind Ravendale Editorial. I work primarily with emerging writers, offering thoughtful, in-depth feedback to help shape compelling, emotionally resonant stories.
I specialise in fiction, with a particular affinity for fantasy, sci-fi, and cross-genre/speculative fiction. I know firsthand the blood, sweat, and tears that go into every page — I’ve been through it too, as a writer of true crime and science fantasy myself.
Services include:
– Developmental editing (structure, pacing, worldbuilding) – Line editing (tone, flow, polish) – Manuscript assessments with actionable insight – Chapter-by-chapter edits (for flexibility and affordability)
My editing style is collaborative and respectful — I aim to strengthen your story’s structure and sentence-level craft while preserving your vision and voice. You always retain full creative autonomy over your work.
I currently do not take on poetry, academic texts, non-fiction, or memoir.
Timelines vary by project scope and length — I have a few openings available in May.
Every project includes:
– In-line comments (Word or Google Docs) – A detailed editorial report – Honest, kind, and clear communication – A complimentary first chapter edit to get a feel for my style (No pressure — but a testimonial is always appreciated!)
GOODREADS Launch Offer – 25% Off:
To celebrate 10 years as a Goodreads member and the official launch of Ravendale, I’m offering 25% off my shorter services:
– Foundations First (Prologue + first 3 chapters, up to 10,000 words) – Short project packages
(Quote “GOODREADS” if reaching out via email or website)
If preferred, you can also find me on Fiverr, where shorter packages are listed at an introductory rate while I build my client base.
Rates & Approach:
Industry rates for professional developmental and line editing typically range from $0.02–$0.08 USD per word. My bespoke hybrid approach — which combines structural insight and line-level polish — sits in the lower-middle of that range.
Transparency & Training:
I am registered with the Chartered Institute of Editing and Proofreading (CIEP) and am completing formal training with ACES, Editors Canada, Poynter, and others.
While I don’t have a public portfolio (many clients are still in submission), I do have testimonials available and I’m happy to answer questions.
