Hey, if they have books like that, it is worth supporting them all by yourself.

LOL I agree! He's the greatest book dealer too... gives me free books sometimes and always lets me know when new books come in that he thinks I'd like
Hi everyone...
Been a while since I've been here again.
Made some notes on books I really want to read...
Luckily my library has some great Royal History books, which is strange cause they dont really have a great stock overall... :)
I'm going to try The White Queen and see if its any good... The last book I read by Gregory wasnt too interesting, so any reviews any of you want to give about The White Queen, go ahead.
I'm trying to find Marie Antoinette...

Welcome back Niecole - I hope you find Marie Antoinette, the first two chapters are a little rough, but it is a great book after that.
Also, we are in the process of nominating for our July/August read, the poll to vote goes up this weekend, so you still have a few days to make a nomination if you wish.

Found another one yesterday that excited me...
The Book of Eleanor: A Novel of Eleanor of Aquitaine by Pamela Kaufman. It was $0.50 at the local library... love those finds :)

LOL You should! I have two secondhand bookstores I frequent regularly, the library once in a while and a few discount stores that I go searching in. And of course, yard sales, etc. I won't lie though, if it's a book I've been looking for too, you'll have to wait until I find the second copy ;)

Aly - If it didn't have Henry VIII you would have to wonder about the word Notorious in the title, huh. I'm anxious to see what you think of it.
Jennifer, you make me so jelous with all your great bookstores around you :)

Sometimes I think there's too many of them... other times, not enough ;)

Do you ever do any ordering online?
We should all start a bookswap. Give a list of our top 5 books-to-find and have each other try to find copies to be mailed out. Thoughts?

I think that is a great idea, Jennifer. We can call it our Traveling Library or something like that.
Ooh I like that idea!
I dont really do things online, simply because I'm to affraid hehe, and I'm not as tech savvy as most.

I'm currently reading Edward and Alexandra: Their Private and Public Lives that I took out at the library. I'm enjoying it so far... after this I'd also like to read more about Queen Victoria... any recommendation that you could give me?
I own a two non-fiction about Victoria but haven't read them yet (seems to be the story of my life...)
Her Little Majesty: The Life of Queen Victoria by Carolly Erickson
Victoria's Daughters Jerrold M. Packard
Also, I know that Jean Plaidy has written a series on her.

Cool thanks Jennifer! I'll go see if my library has any on her.
I know that my brother did a assignmet about her when he was at school, but that was about 15 years ago...
I read somewhere that she had an illness where she would bleed? Cant remember what it was called

Oooh so am I.
The little I have read about her she sounds not so great. In the book I'm reading now it says that she wrote in her journal, and told some people that she only enjoyed her children when they were between the ages of 3 and ten. When they were babies she couldnt stand the sight of them and would never considder breasfeeding. And once Victoria and Bertie, her eldest children were over 10, she didnt find them interesting anymore. How sad is that?
Oh and her husband, Prince Albert, was a hypocondriac... and he didnt like his first born son Bertie (Albert Edward) much at all

Wow... that's awful! Now I really want to read the one I have about her daughers. I wonder if it will have anything about that in it?
Dont know, but if you read it and its good please tell me? :)
I know that when her eldest daughter Vicky got married that she wrote to her constantly, they were like "pen pals". I also think I read somewhere that her youngest daugter Beatrice became like her companion in later years...
In the book I'm reading I also get the feeling she didnt like Bertie much, at one point they say she wrote in her journal that she wished Alfie (the second son) was born the first boy... I think thats a bit harsh! But Bertie went on to become King Edward VII

Haemophilia. Queen Victoria didn't have the illness herself, she was a carrier and passed it on to her son Leopold. Some of her daughters were also carriers and passed it on to their sons (famously Tsarevitch Alexei).
It's caused by a fault in one of the genes on the X chromosome. Girls have two copies of the X chromosome, so if they have one faulty gene and one normal gene they don't show any symptoms but can pass the faulty gene to their children. Boys have one X chromosome and one Y chromosome, so if they inherit the faulty gene from their mother they have haemophilia.
Thanks Clara :)
Do you know anything more about her?

This a great discussion. I am really enjoying reading about what you all know about Victoria. I haven't read much about her, either, but you are definitely sparking my interest. The book about her daughters especially looks interesting. If you get to it, I will be anxious to know what you think of it, Jennifer.
Hi Lyn M, I'm glad your enjoying this, so am I. I'd also love to know what Jennifer thinks of the book when she has read it.
The books we have on the Royal Families are very limited at my library, not even to speak of at the bookstores, expect maybe at the really expensive ones.
If any of you have good authers to recommend, let me know.

I will let everyone know what I think if it but I'm sure it will be some time before I get to it. Way too many books on the go!

Thanks Susanna.

I would really like to read about Princess Grace.
Lennie, that looks like a great one! You'll have to let us know what you think. I also don't know much about them but would love to learn more. Princess Grace was so gorgeous ~ classic beauty!

I agree, Lennie, Diana was very Grace Kelly like. I would love to know what you think about this book!
Lennie wrote: "I agree, I think she was beautiful and glamorous and it seemed like everyone loved her. In this regard, she reminds me of Princess Diana."
Yes! That's exactly the thought I had when I wrote my last post about classic beauty :)

At one point in the book, it mentions that Queen Elizabeth never attended any of their functions because she felt that the royal family in Monaco was not her "equal". I had to chuckle when I read that because it would be so like her to think that!
I have to warn you though, this book is poorly edited and I didn't realize it until I came across a lot of words that were not spelled correctly.
I have the ebooks for the following:
The Boleyn Inheritance
The White Queen
The Other Queen
And from the library I got:

I have that one, too, Niecole. Have you read the
