Leanne walked through the crowded hallways, hugging herself and trying not to bump into anyone. She let out a heavy sigh when she finally made it to her locker, opening it up and grabbing her math notebook. She stifled a small scream when she saw a tear in reality on the back of her locker, a shadow trying to squeeze its way out. Quickly forcing the portal shut with her mind, she tried to ignore the way it made her scars throb, the memory too fresh. She pulled her sleeves down for good measure, and tucked her hair back behind her ear.
Gen was at her locker as she had maths, the runes on her were ancient, as sometimes her power got out of control. People always looked at her funny because of them as she went and walked past Leanne. She saw that she was scared, and she was torn whether she should comfort her or just let her be. "Are you okay?" she asked softly.
Leanne jumped a little. "Oh, um, I'm fine. Just... stressed." Leanne laughed nervously. She knew there were some kids that went to the school that had powers, or super parents, and whatnot, but she didn't know all of them. The runes on the girl's arms could be a sign of said powers, or just a fun tattoo. And if she told people about what she could do, they'd either laugh or run away screaming.
Gen looked at her, "No, they're not fun tattoos" she said softly. She could hear her voice, but it was barely there. "I'm Gen Summers" she said using her dads last name as when using her moms. There was a lot of arguing.
Leanne jumped. "Summers? Your mom is the one who..." She shook her head. "Never mind. I was just having some... trouble with my...abilities." Leanne tugged on her hair a little bit, betraying her nervousness. "Sorry," She whispered, "I'm not sure how to do this kind of stuff in public. But how do you know about me?"
"When someone stifles a scream when opening their lockers, you just know," she said, and she readjusted her posture when Leanne mentioned her mom.
Leanne laughed again, this time less anxious. "I suppose that is true. Seems to be a common occurrence for me, at least. What about you?"
"The runes are just in case i lose control, they dampen my powers, you know" she said as she smiled at her and when the bell rang she jumped, "Plus I am not used to being at school"
Leanne's eyes widened. "Really? You've had it your whole life?" She couldn't imagine that. Although, it might be better, not having to look back on your past and wish nothing changed. To hate yourself because you're different. Maybe it would've been easier if she had grown up with it... with the demons.
Leanne looked after her, biting her lip. On one hand, this was her chance to finally make a friend, on the other, she was soooo going to get in trouble. But, if she was being honest with herself, she didn't want to have to deal with another breakdown that just might lead to the destruction of the human world. So she closed and locked her locker, then hurried after Gen.
