The Pecan Man - Informal Buddy Read

I'm probably going to get to this book in the middle of April, but I'll set up the thread since we don't always get the buddy read books at the same time.

This one comes highly recommended.

In the summer of 1976, recently widowed and childless, Ora Lee Beckworth hires a homeless old black man to mow her lawn. The neighborhood children call him the Pee-can Man; their mothers call them inside whenever he appears. When the police chief's son is found stabbed to death near his camp, the man Ora knows as Eddie is arrested and charged with murder. Twenty-five years later, Ora sets out to tell the truth about the Pecan Man. In narrating her story, Ora discovers more truth about herself than she could ever have imagined.

This novel has been described as To Kill a Mockingbird meets The Help.

I feel like this story has already been told; yet it is so good! I'm listening to the audio book and really enjoying it.

I really enjoyed this book. Alissa and I are going to read the sequel also. Below is a link to a blog post by the author that talks about why she decided to make a sequel to the book. I didn't see any spoilers in it, but beware, sometimes I don't always see them! :-)
