Laura | 42 comments I read the fan translation of the book and a majority of the comic before it was printed. I didn't finish since I ran out of coins and it seemed like each adaptation of the story was pretty faithful anyway. I wanted a physical copy since its been awhile since I read the story. I have limited shelf space so I'm torn on which to get. I like the comic since it's cute but it is longer than the novel version. Do you guys like one more than the other? I had heard the novel had some translation issues.

Personally, I prefer the novel, but I tend to prefer originals to adaptations, so I might be a bit unreliable. Besides, foreign languages have never been my strength and my native is neither Chinese, nor English, so it's completely possible there were really translation issues that I didn't notice, but I'm under the belief that at the very least, I understood what I read. This doesn't sound really helpful, I guess.

thedeadlyscimitar | 128 comments I also prefer the novel, personally. I have heard that there were translation errors, but there was never anything in the English translation that bothered me personally or made it difficult for me to understand the story. The manhua is good too, but if I have to pick, I’ll always choose the original over an adaptation. I own both, just because I’m a huge fan of the MDZS story and it is very special to me as the one that got me into danmei. Another consideration though is that buying the novels is more cost effective if you’re trying to save money. There are only five volumes of the novel at $20 each. The manhua volumes are also $20 each. I’m not sure how many volumes the manhua is going to be in total, but they are already up to nine volumes, so obviously it would be more expensive to buy the manhua. Depending on the amount of volumes, the manhua will likely also end up taking up more space on a shelf if you’re concerned about limited space. Currently, they take up about the same amount of space on my shelf, since each volume of the novel is longer than a volume of the manhua, though the manhua still takes up slightly more.

Румяна I think the manhua is going to be 13 volumes. I can’t be really sure since I’ve read only the first two but they at least had 20 chapters per volume. If that’s the case with the rest of the volumes and since the manhua is 260 chapters, it should be 13 volumes. Please, correct me if I’m mistaken somewhere.

Ah jeez lol I thought the manhwa was done with like 8, I hadn't been following. I think I'll get the novels then and treat the manwha like my manga. For manga I only get two or three volumes just cuz the series are long. Thanks for the heads up!

Kirin | 22 comments I would also lean more towards the novels! Though the comic does have pretty art.

I love how the comic depicts their goofy moments lol

Katie❄️ (theicequeen) | 268 comments The comics are ok but I prefer the novels. One thing I dislike about the comics and think it is a waste are the chapter pages. If you were to remove those the book volume would almost be half it's size.

If I was a creative person I would tear apart the novels and comics then rebind them together.

I keep seeing all these really cool artists rebinding their favorites with crazy covers.
