MargieD2017 | 331 comments This book placed in the Philippines reveals the friendship between 3 Army nurses established in the few days before Pearl Harbor. 2 of the nurses, Elenor and Penny are from the US while Lita is a native Filipino. With the invasion of the Philipines by the Japenese all three nurses find themselves POWs, split up to different internment camps with each exposed for years to the brutality of their captors and the endurance of the human spirit to remain present and engaged to help others.

This is as much an exploration of a person's indurance in the face adversity as it is an historical depiction of the WWII experience in the Philippines. I felt alot and learned alot.

Book Concierge (tessabookconcierge) | 8444 comments This reminds me of a very good NONfiction book about Army nurses held as POWs during WW2 ... We Band of Angels: The Untold Story of American Nurses Trapped on Bataan by the Japanese

Booknblues | 12155 comments I am currently reading this, so nice to know I have a sort of reading buddy.

Like BC I read another book about American women POWs during World War II and it stuck in my mind. It was Guests of the Emperor. At the time I thought it was very good, so this one has to measure up to my decades old memory.

Lyn (lynm) | 1150 comments I really liked We Band of Angels: The Untold Story of American Nurses Trapped on Bataan by the Japanese when I read it. A fiction read would be a nice balance. I will add it to my TBR.
