I think I'd like to stick with platonic with him for now and see where things go and how his relationships blossom. He's a very complex character and he hates being the son of Aphrodite and with his abilities, he will just think any romantic relationships he has rn would be fake

i have some ideas but like i had this in mind :

van: you ever wish you were someone else?
maria: all the time.
van: yeah. same.
maria: guess we’re stuck with each other then.
van: tragic.
maria: completely.

just me brainstorming tbh lolol
maybe they are like rlly relatable and have some commonalities? and when they talk abt their personal experiences and life, they start to understand more and start noticing details bout each other they didn't notice?

No, i actually I love this dynamic! I feel like Van and Maria would have this really genuine connection that develops so naturally. Like, they might start out just randomly running into each other during those quiet moments - maybe Maria's at the lake late at night playing with water when everyone else is asleep, and Van's out there doing his brooding thing after sneaking back from a fight or whatever. What would be cool is how they'd probably both be so guarded at first but somehow end up having these super real conversations without even trying.
