Below is a detailed but compact explanation of what our group’s all about. We the three moderators enjoy Dungeons and Dragons, so we thought it would be nice to see that world represented here on Goodreads! We have of course taken some liberties and changed things to suit a text-based roleplay better, so it could be considered merely a fantasy world with heavy inspiration off of Dungeons and Dragons.

If you’re reading this, you have either joined and want to get a better idea of the group or you haven’t and you’re wondering if you should. (The answer is yes.) Well, fear not, intrepid adventurer! We have all of the information you could possibly need right here.

Aerulle Rising is an open-world roleplay group based heavily off of Dungeons and Dragons. We have taken the races and classes in which the world has created and formed a world around it. We are focusing on the continent of Aerulle, a continent in which we have also customized a map for! If you’d like to read more about the world we’ve built and you understand the group itself, head over to ✰ Aerulle Information and read that!

When we say that this group is “open world,” what we mean is that it will function a little differently from a standard roleplay group. We are presenting you with a world, but no central conflict to propel forward a story all of your characters are woven into. Our hope for this is to maximize individual creativity and to roleplay about whatever you want with whoever you want within the confines of this world, kind of like how one-on-one roleplays work, but all within one world. Your characters don’t have to care about one location or event. They can each have their own distinct paths in life, their own personal quests or conflicts, their own reasons for being the main character of their story. We want you all to have the freedom to create conflicts for your characters to push back against together without us limiting what you can and can’t care about.

This group provides an organized, well-maintained, and unapologetically aesthetic layout. The moderators are active and we’ve worked very hard to make the group what it is. With all of that covered, we thought it’d be helpful to compile a list of useful links and potential frequently asked questions if you are in need of more information than what we have provided. As always, if you have any questions even after reading this and following the provided links, make your way over to ✰ Questions.

What is Dungeons and Dragons?

The link below will explain that better than we could! If that is blocked or you cannot access it, please feel free to ask about it!

What races are there? (see our descriptions here)

The link below has a list of Dungeons and Dragons races and a short description, similar to what we have provided, but with the addition of several races we didn’t include in the world. You can also google “[race name] dnd” to see the wiki articles for each race.

What classes are there? (see our descriptions here)

The link below explains what classes are and the pros and cons of each, as well as several subclasses. Be careful to look this over with the descriptions from our group in mind because the flavor text of some classes and subclasses have been altered to better fit a roleplay group.

How does the magic work here? (see our description here)

The magic system in Dungeons and Dragons can be kind of complex, so we have included three resources for this, in addition to our own topic and explanation for magic. The first is an overview of the schools of magic and the differences between them. The second link is just a full list of spells within Dungeons and Dragons for you to use in your character pages and roleplays. Certain classes can only learn certain spells, which is shown in a table on source three. Of course, there will be exceptions to that rule in a case-by-case basis, but the table is a general outline for what types of spells each class may know. As always, if you cannot access the provided links for whatever reason, do not be afraid to ask for clarification and explanations.
