Hello, folks! I joined this year but haven't introduced myself yet, so thank you for the opportunity to finally do so!1. I'm Sofia; people call me Sofi in Bulgaria and Sonya in Ukraine, so all three options are fine
2. I'm turning 18 in less than two months (sorry, that's not really vague...)
3. Well, one day I just had the epiphany that a danmei group just must exist on Goodreads, so I searched it up and this one popped up, which made me quite happy since it meant that I would be able to connect with people with similar interests and discuss what we liked/what we didn't like in particular novels while also appreciating the culture.
4. I'm fluent in Bulgarian, Ukrainian, Russian, and English. I also understand and speak German to a certain degree but I'm far from being fluent there...
5. One danmei fact about me is that I actually read only 1 or 2 danmei novels in a year, which is considered a small number by many. But I just like to fully emerge myself in them while reading and to keep thinking just about them the whole year. So, despite the fact that I don't read a lot of novels, the danmei world still remains my main fandom (together with Genshin I guess).

I'm happy to see one more person from Bulgaria joining the group! I think it's great that you read only 1 or 2 danmei novels per year. I think that less and/or slow reading can make a person more appreciative of the novels they read. Unfortunately, I discovered this only recently.

4. I grew up speaking English and some Shanghai dialect Chinese. Unfortunately, my Chinese reading skills are atrocious, so I mainly stick to English translations (fan or official).

You are in the right place if you want to talk about danmei 😊 It is probably quite common that there aren't many danmei fans in real life for many of us so it's great that we have each other here.

GoodReads is a great way to track your reading and even better if it can give you the opportunity to talk with others who like danmei.
It makes perfect sense that you prefer to read in English if you only speak some Shanghai Chinese. Like you, I prefer not to read in my native language (Danish) and so I read in English as well 😊

3. I found this discussion just now and was hoping to get some good monthly book recs and get a wider span of danmei that I know of or have read!
4. I speak English and Spanish fluently but have been learning Chinese for a few years and have recently started (attempting) to use danmei to help me learn.
5. I went to Taiwan last summer and picked up MDZS in traditional Chinese and TGCF is the first danmei I ever picked up and is what got me into this beautiful mess. (I couldn't really think of anything hahaha)
Also, I'd be super happy if the challenges continued into this year so that I could participate in them as well! I saw some of the older ones but I didn't see any new ones that I could join so that would be awesome!

I joined because I have recently been introduced to the danmei genre, and I have a lot of danmei on my tbr. How impressive that you can inhale books so quickly. Do you re-read them later on to enjoy them in detail? As I have aged, I find that I prefer to read books slowly, because I miss too many details when I binge-read.
You sound like such a well-rounded person with interests in both the sciences and the arts. That is so wonderful!

As a kid, mom found me blue and not breathing. I guess I started breathing again after they believed me gone at the hospital. Then Id just die again lol this happened two more times. I had to be taught how to speak again afterwards and even now I still have a bit of a speech impediment. There wasnt any explanation to why that happened.

Good to be vague while still a minor but it sounds like a great excuse to buy books in the original language for learning purposes.
However, not so great to purchase beyond your means... Temptation is difficult but staying within our purchasing power is rewarding, because ultimately we can buy more books 😄
