Judging from the plot, this seems to be more my cup. Here's hoping for the best that I can participate in this month's group read!
First 2 chapters in, and sadly, I don't care for any of characters as yet. Since it is our group read and I voted for it, I likely will read on, but otherwise... Sure hope I enjoy it more as it goes on.
Glad I kept reading. One of my concerns is all the smoking they do in the Grand Canyon. Is it too much to hope they are picking up all their butts to carry out with them and leave the place clean?
So I got too creeped out by the claustrophobic, pitch black tunnels and cave about halfway through and had to take a break. I also really cheated and read ahead to see who lived. Don't judge me. Came back and finished it yesterday. It was a pretty wild story. I'm glad I read it but I won't read book 2.
My final review: "4.25 stars. This was an excellent archeological adventure in the vein of Preston & Child. If you can suspend your disbelief a little bit, you'll have a great time."The characters definitely get more likeable as you go on, I actually found them all to be realistic with positive and negative qualities. I will definitely be reading the second one.
I am about 50% in right now. Dragging on a bit, as far as action goes at halfway through the book already, but still interesting. (view spoiler) I'm sure something will happen eventually, and I'm looking forward to learning soon the mysteries of the place.
This book did pick up in the second half. I'm not sure I completely understood the particulars of what was found, but I did enjoy the story and concept. I will most likely read the next book, and I can see potential for future stories in this series.
