Zoli | 1 comments Hello,
It seems that this one is misattributed to George Orwell. More, I could not find the real author of the quote. It may be AI generated.

Here is the research:
First I checked the text of 1984. No luck.
Then I checked the net with google (*) to find the source and did not find any reliable indication that it is indeed Orwell's.
Then, I asked chatGPT and the AI came to the same conclusion:

Is this George Orwell's ?
"The most terrible loneliness is not the kind that comes from being alone"
ChatGPT said:
The phrase "The most terrible loneliness is not the kind that comes from being alone, but the kind that comes from being misunderstood" is widely attributed to George Orwell, particularly in his novel 1984.
However, upon examining authoritative sources, this quote does not appear in Orwell's 1984 or any of his other known works. It seems to be a modern misattribution, possibly originating from social media and online platforms.
Therefore, it is unlikely that George Orwell authored this quote.

did you find any place somewhere on the net where somebody wrote or said something of the nature that this text is misattributed to George Orwell ?

I have not found specific sources explicitly stating that the quote "The most terrible loneliness is not the kind that comes from being alone" is misattributed to George Orwell. However, authoritative collections of Orwell's works do not contain this quote, suggesting it is not authentically his. >>
(*) This is the google search that did not return any good results:

Hi Zoli

I haven't read 1984. Like you I can't find a source for this quote. Goodreads hasn't said librarians are allowed to use AI as a justification for removing quotes.

Could you change the title of your thread to something like quote not from 1984 & hopefully a librarian familiar with the book will see it. This is only possible in the desktop view.
