Are you a veteren, Neil? Or affiliated with any government agencies or private social clubs? Most of these organizations have a person that will help you with crisies like this. Also look into The District Attornys Victim Services office. Wish I could help. Enough people are thinking of you so maybe some good karma will come your way.
Wow! What a kind thing. My insurance won't pay a dime. I'm not a vet. I've filed with the Washington State's Victims of Crime, but my case is low priority as I wasn't physically injured. At this moment, it looks as if friends and family will likely pull me through, I may have the crisis part of the situation resolved by the end of the day. I'll keep you updated.
I don't qualify for Victims of Crime compensation, and my employer's generous offer was still beyond my reach financially.I have three other friends that have all offered to give me a car. I shall be in Seattle tonight trying to determine if any of them will survive my 60 mile a day commute.
My friend Jo Nadine was kind enough to give me her old 89 Toyota Carolla to get me around until I find a better car or to keep if I need.Sadly her Toyota went kaput on my commute this morning. The serpentine belt broke on I-5 in the foothills around Lake Samish. No shoulder, pouring rain, strong wind. Getting the car to work without the power steering was like wrestling a small bear.
I think I'm going to have a nervous breakdown now.
OH NO! Is there any way you can stay someplace closer to work for a couple of pay checks and then maybe get a car at auction? There's got to be some way for things to work out. Jeez Neil I'm in Boston but I'm going to ask around for other ideas. Hang in there.
It took a while, but after a month of driving loaners I've got a car of my own again. Thank you all for your kind words and support.
