Jackie | 1488 comments On Chapter 6. Slow moving so far. Mostly character introductions. Matthew and Jonathan seem to have a really good relationship which is good to see.

I'm not caring much for the narrator. I may switch to the ebook.

Kirsten | 1235 comments Hah! I’m reading this, too, nearly half done. It’s very slow for me. I thought it was Distant Echo. I’ve been following that buddy read and couldn’t figure out what Janine and Amanda were talking about.

Phew.
P
There are lots of POVs. I like Jen especially. I’m definitely intrigued by all the connections and excited to see how they unravel.

I also like the relationship between Matthew and Jonathan.

NGL, I’m v suspicious of (view spoiler)

Kirsten | 1235 comments Sorry for typos. On my iPad. (view spoiler)

message 7: by Janeylou (new)

Janeylou | 2013 comments I much preferred this one over Disatnt Echo

Kirsten | 1235 comments I think it’s money, not sex.

Kirsten | 1235 comments Matthew is so judgmental about Jen! And so insecure about Jonathan. He’s not the most likable guy.

Kirsten | 1235 comments I’m still so discombobulated from thinking it was the book you and Amanda were talking about. (What cold case? What confusing names?) I’m liking it much more, now.

I’m a moron.

Kirsten | 1235 comments Maybe not likeable, but certainly interesting!

I’m definitely enjoying this. (view spoiler)

Kirsten | 1235 comments That got to be quite good!

ETA and I figured it out just as Matthew did, so that’s fun.

message 14: by Janeylou (new)

Janeylou | 2013 comments I think i mentioned it was on TV ( in 4 parts) . I watched the 1st and there was lots of little changes , so thought 'Sod that' , then i went and watched the last and they changed the ending 🤷‍♀️🤷‍♀️

Found this on Audio, so will start during office hours tomorrow.

Amanda (bookoutbelow) | 1472 comments I’m feeling that this one is very slow. Need to take a break to get a bachelor book or two in. When did you all feel it picked up?

message 18: by Janeylou (new)

Janeylou | 2013 comments I felt that being slow reflected the area its set in as a laid back coastal town ,

Jackie | 1488 comments I finished last night. I thought it was really slow also. It was well past halfway before it picked up.

Ok. Will not be listening to this. I'm gonna read this tomorrow.

Jackie | 1488 comments I did not like the audio narrator and switched back and forth between the audio and the ebook.

Overall, it was a good story and the last fourth of the book had a lot of action. I didn’t particularly like Matthew from the start but liked him better by the end. My favorite character was Lucy.

Kirsten | 1235 comments It picked up with Christine and Matthew and his mother, for me.

Amanda (bookoutbelow) | 1472 comments Honestly, I stayed bored throughout. I think it was well written, and for the second time in a BR lately, I'm going to say I think it's mostly still my own mood and not the book.

Kirsten | 1235 comments I'm going to double down on my assertion that leaving the bonus reads to the end of the month made it really hard for me to get into these. I hate reading things when I feel like I have to.

For months I've been dying to read Slow Horses, but now that it's 22 March, I'd rather poke my eye out with a stick. I should have knocked that out at the beginning. It's a completely mental thing, where I feel like if I'm supposed to do something, I don't wanna, like a big baby.

I am so glad I'm not trying to do this and SH.

Amanda (bookoutbelow) | 1472 comments You are SO right. I think that's why I'm going into every one of these hyper critically. I'm glad that the next 3 months it's only 1 book and can be read at any time.
