Let's make Friendship Bracelets! You can make as many bracelets as you like and add as many or as few charms or beads to each bracelet as you like. Want to have a blue bracelet with lots of glass beads? Read a book with a blue cover and then lots of books where people make art. Want a pink bracelet with all different kinds of charms? Read a book with a pink cover and then a book for each charm you like. Have fun and share your digital creations!

Start with string
Choose a book to designate as your string colors: whatever colors are on the cover of this book, those are the colors of your bracelet.

Add beads and charms to your bracelet:
BFF heart half: a book where platonic friendship plays an important role
Glass bead: Someone in the book makes a piece of art or craftwork
Wooden bead: A significant portion of the book is set outdoors
Animal charm: a book featuring the animal of your choice
Seed beads: a book that is part of a series
Faceted beads: a book with more than one point of view
Letter beads: A word in the title starts with one of your initials
Star beads: A book that has been nominated for or won an award
Zodiac charm: A book published in the same month as your birthday
Rainbow charm: A book with LGBTQIA+ main character

FAQ

Q: Can books overlap between the main Around the Year challenge and the spring read-a-thon?
A: Yes, absolutely! Some of the tasks are designed to be easy for you to fit in books you’re planning to read for AtY.

Q: Can a book be used for more than one spring readathon challenge prompt?
A: Each book can only be used for one prompt in the spring readathon individual challenge, but you are welcome to use them for the group challenge if you are participating in that as well.

Q: Can a prompt be used more than once?
A: Yes, this individual challenge is designed for you to pick the prompts that you enjoy the most. Want to read 5 books from one series? Go for it!

Q: Can books started before March 1 or in progress on March 9 be counted?
A: You may count a book started before the challenge begins as long as you read at least 100 pages of the book on or after March 1. You must have completed a book by March 9 to count it.

Q: How long does a book need to be to count for the readathon?
A: Books need to be at least 100 pages long, except for graphic novels which need to be at least 200 pages. For audiobooks, you can use the print version or estimate 1 minute = 1 page.

Sherri Harris | 1488 comments I'm confused about the Individual Challenge Tracking page. I know it's for the individual challenge but it looks like we can also track our progress on the team challenge. Is this correct?

It's meant to be used for read-a-thon tracking, ideally for the individual challenge, but you can include your personal reading (team or individual) if you'd like. I figured it was easier to have one tracking thread instead of two.
