Steven (tbones) | 592 comments Hey People!!! :O) I put up Abarat by Clive Barker for our March into April read cause I thought something fantasy for going into spring since it seems like maybe it wasn't a fantasy that spring could be around the corner since the snow has all melted finally up by me and the sun is out :O) Me so happy. Hope this book works great for you all and give me some ideads for what people are hoping to read for our April into May book. I tell ya I really need to get cracking on this stuff. Feb. went by without any monthly read so I hope you all found something enjoyable.

I love who they picked for Effie! Loved her! They did an amazing job on the movie :)

Steven (tbones) | 592 comments I'm in the middle of The Trench book 2 of Steve Alten's MEG series at the moment and I am also making my way through a stack of some pretty awesome comics. I did find one called Desperadoes that I thought was really cool. It's a western comic which I haven't seen much of in the past. After how big a thing The Walking Dead comic has become, I try to read a lot of different genres and publishing groups when it comes to comics cause you really never know where they are going to go. I was once told that horror comics would never be worth anything. Well The Walking Dead is kind of a horror comic and the first one is worth a whole bunch now so ya never know. Anyway, got me some reading to do so you all have fun and I'll chat more soon.

Steven (tbones) | 592 comments Hi everyone !! :O) What should we read next? It is spring summer weather we have coming and I'm thinking something action/adventure-ish with maybe some humor thrown in? Let me know so we can get something up for us to chat about.
This group is dwindling a bit so any members that could tell people about us and invite family or friends in, that would be great. Maybe we could introduce them to a fantastic new book, new author, have some great conversations in a thread with them, and just find them some great offers for books they really enjoy.

message 105: by Steven (new)

Steven (tbones) | 592 comments I have Crescendo up for a second month with hopes that it will give people some extra time to read it so we can maybe get a really good discussion going on this title. We also have the author Deborah Ledford within our group that would really like to join in and chat to read everyones thoughts about her book :o)

Also, this thread is "what to read next" Our next read will be in October and I am thinking something creepy/Halloweenish but funny /creepy/Halloweenish works good too. What I would love to get is some ideas from members in this thread of titles they would be interested in reading for that month. And maybe give me something for Nov. and Dec. My hope is to really get some great chats going about these books and get some authors in on them as well.

I hope everyone is having an awesome summer so far and has not only read some great books but had some adventures of their own that might be worth turning into a book someday :O)

Fall is here! Time to get some great reads compiled you will enjoy, while catching the last of the warm weather outside, watching the leaves turn.
What's on your list?

Xoxo,
Jenna

message 107: by Steven (new)

Steven (tbones) | 592 comments Hey Jenna,
Yes it is an interesting time of year..our leaves have fallen but the heat is still hear :o/ Weird huh...I am looking forward to fall and the Halloween season as always. I am reading Screamscapes by Evans Light at the moment. It's a collection of short horror stories and ArborEatum was just amazing...what a creepy movie/Halloween special this one would make :o) After that I plan on reading something by Adam Light which is Evans brother, then I don't really know. I did pick up a few awesome sounding James Rollins titles at the Goodwill store out near Astoria OR...do you know what movie they filmed there...Goonies..we visited the Goonies house and the jailhouse from the beginning of the movie...my son got to get in a jail cell and hang a sign around his neck that says "Do you think I'm stupid enough to kill myself?" :o) Anyway, that's what I am in the middle of reading but I do have Crescendo up for our read here and have to change it for this month into next. Do you have any ideas? I was thinking something by Rick Hautala...something to honor him since we lost him this year :o( Gonna miss that guy big time.

message 108: by Steven (new)

Steven (tbones) | 592 comments Hey wanted to let any members know, that may have read my broadcast sent today, that the book mentioned as Dreamscapes is actually Screamscapes by Evans Light that has been picked for the monthly read. You will all enjoy this title. It's seriously got something for everyone in it.

I know what you mean about Rick Hautala, Steven. I didn't know him, but a few of my friends on here did, and said he was quite the remarkable fellow. I read The Wildman recently and enjoyed, but some others that read with me were less than impressed with that one. He has a ton of work to choose from, though.

message 110: by Steven (new)

Steven (tbones) | 592 comments Oooo Wildman, yes that is a story that you like it or you don't and it is all about perspective with that one. I think if people let it settle in their mind after reading it, they may change their feelings about it. Hautala, yeah the guy was a blast to chat with on here and I always kept him informed about new sites that he could promote through and really tried to get him motivated to get some graphic comic versions of his early titles made. He was even working on jumping into the YA audience scene. His passing is scary just cause he was too young and he had so many more stories to offer. I'm definitely picking up a copy (maybe two) of a book coming out in Nov. which the proceeds are going to helping his family out. I will try and get the info and post it on Desperate BookJunkies so everyone can get a chance at one.

message 111: by Adam (new)

Adam Light (goodreadscomadamlight) | 66 comments Thanks Steven. I will be on the lookout.

message 112: by Steven (new)

Steven (tbones) | 592 comments Mister October is the title of that Hautala tribute book. There will be 2 volumes.

message 113: by Angie (new)

Angie | 225 comments I've never heard of him but I love to try new things. So are we going to be reading something by Rick hautala and what of his should I try first.

message 114: by Steven (new)

Steven (tbones) | 592 comments I would recommend either Little Brothers or The Mountain King...if you like ghostly type stuff, check out his A.J.Matthews titles too:0)

message 115: by Angie (new)

Angie | 225 comments That's great, thanks Stephen :) I just downloaded the mountain king and I'll check out 're other books later. I'm looking forward to reading this and I'll let you know what I think:)

message 116: by Steven (new)

Steven (tbones) | 592 comments I actually have an ebook copy of Little Brothers I could loan you if you'd like to message me your email You could read that first so when you get to the short stories in the back of The Mountain King you'll already be introduced to the Little Brothers creatures :0)

message 117: by Angie (new)

Angie | 225 comments Its the first in the series so that's good:) I've not read any by this author and I always like trying out books that are new to me. Haterwhich is a thriller/horror or The Devil You Know which is an urban fantasy could both be good.

message 118: by Angie (new)

Angie | 225 comments Do we have any polls so we can vote for the next book? Some ideas are being suggested but I'm not sure how you guys do it yet. What month is even being picked for?

message 119: by Steven (new)

Steven (tbones) | 592 comments Actually, in the past I just usually picked a title and set it up but do you think we should be setting up polls for this?

message 120: by Angie (new)

Angie | 225 comments It might be a good idea, it'll get group members involved and talking and which books they'd like to go into a a poll then vote. But you always to pick a good book so either way is good:)

message 121: by Steven (new)

Steven (tbones) | 592 comments I figured as long as we have a section set up for buddy reads then along with the monthly read picked by the moderator, there would be enough to choose from. I usually pick a monthly group read based on what we've read in the past plus I check around for what authors are new and Goodreads members that we can get good deals and visits from.

message 122: by Angie (new)

Angie | 225 comments Its a good way to pick the group read, and its always fun to have an author involved when you're reading. I'm nearing the end of some books so I can start May fresh. I've been waiting to read relic of ages now!

message 123: by Steven (new)

Steven (tbones) | 592 comments I am a little bit into The Relic already just so I can help at getting the discussion going a bit. Oh and I have been able to get my wife in on the Savage buddy read as well. She is way ahead of me in it now too. She smacked me cause she ended up staying up way later the other night reading it. So it was my fault at being such a book pusher that she woke up all sleepy still :o)

message 124: by Steven (new)

Steven (tbones) | 592 comments I do have to say that for people that may have already seen the movie of The Relic, they are missing out by not reading the book cause it is a totally different experience and (view spoiler).

message 125: by Angie (new)

Angie | 225 comments After finding out there was a movie I went ahead and bought it but I've not watched it yet as I don't want to spoil the book. What's your wife's name so I can talk to her on the Savage buddy read:) it'll me fun to talk book to your wife about books:D

message 126: by Steven (new)

Steven (tbones) | 592 comments Well if she gets in there her name is Annemarie...I really should check though to see what name she used on here first. I will let her know you would be excited to chat books with her too.

message 127: by Angie (new)

Angie | 225 comments I'm looking forward to this book as well Alicia:) I've heard such good things about it and I know the writers are really good. The one I've read that was recommended to me by Steven was Riptide. It was such good fun:O)

And it's based on a real place and curse. The Curse of Oak Island is the show that's on Discovery or the History Channel. There is also mention of Oak Island in The Relic...I did find the sequel to The Relic while on our coastal trip yesterday :O) 4 bucks :O)

message 129: by Angie (new)

Angie | 225 comments Do tell the name of the sequel Steven???? Seriously what's it called so I can look it up, it'll be great to read more about that island.i'm having to sign of now imgiong vision bsc. I'll be back gommofsw night g7yds:).

message 131: by Steven (new)

Steven (tbones) | 592 comments that's the name of the book and wow The Relic is a total change from the film. I think the book is actually gorier than the movie. I wish Preston & Child had graphic novels of their books. I would love to see an artist's vision of how the characters and this monstrous creature would look.

message 132: by Steven (new)

Steven (tbones) | 592 comments Just wanted to let you know that I set up a monthly book read for August. It called Further Out Than You Thought and it's by Michaela Carter. It got a little info on the book from the author that is a Goodreads author and it sounded interesting and like something we might all enjoy. The book isn't available till the 9th so there's still a few days till we can start it.
Also, I am trying to come up with some ideas for our read within Sept. into October and then an October read. I was thinking of Horns by Joe Hill for Sept. since there is a movie in the making for it and I read a little into it and it was pretty fun. Then I was thinking of some type of horror anthology for October.
I hope these picks work out and you are all reading something great right now :o)

Hi, my name is Andrea Hintz and I am the author of The Tesoro Series! The first book was recently released, and the second book will be coming soon. It is a treasure hunting book series and has had all five star reviews on Goodreads so far! Here is some information about the first book!

Tesoro: Secrets of the Hidden Treasure (Volume 1) by Andrea Hintz

What would you do if your wild, thrill-seeking cousin who is known for deceiving you into going on disastrous road trips and “disadventures” asked you for a ride? Daphne Bleau (that’s right, like the color) is not the kind to be tricked easily. She’s conservative, boring, and has a tremendous fear of trying anything new and exciting. She’s also brilliant, but her consideration and concern for her mischievous cousin causes her to fall for another one of her cousin’s antics. But this time, her cousin is caught up in something different . . . The Tesoro project is one that requires solving difficult riddles and puzzles in order to track down artifacts left behind by a dangerous pirate group known as Tesoro who lived back in the late 1600s. What starts off as more of a leisure activity ultimately takes over and seems to permanently captivate whoever joins in on the search, making the people involved take extreme measures to stay ahead of each other. The clues start off simple, and gradually become more dangerous. By the end, their lives are at stake. To make matters more complicated, Daphne and her teammates have run into an uncle who has been almost completely absent for the past fifteen years. Her family has been secretive of the reasoning behind his whereabouts. The story begins in the beautiful Hamptons and unexpectedly transitions to Rome, Italy. Throughout, there are flashbacks focusing on the story of Johnny Higgins; a rebellious, teenaged pirate who has been trapped in the Tesoro crew for years. His attempts to escape have failed him, and he feels as though he is living in a world not his own.

Steven (tbones) | 592 comments So not sure what happened to last month's read or why it didn't stay listed but oh well. I hope everyone likes the title I've picked for the April read. It's called Tesla's Attic and it is written by a talented team up of Neal Shusterman & Eric Elfman. I just started reading this first book in this series but my wife has passed me up in it and is on book 2 already called Edison's Alley. I think these titles will entertain a wide range of age groups and hope we get some discussions going on this title after the read. Tesla's Attic (Accelerati, #1) by Neal Shusterman

Steven (tbones) | 592 comments Hey my wife wrote this perfect review for Blister by Jeff Strand

And I thought maybe this review would help people decide on this for a monthly read...what do you think? :)

Jeff Strand does it again. Another page turner that I hated putting down. His characters were inviting, intriguing and enlightening. I found myself pulling for a character, and then before you knew it, you were looking behind their back. One twist after another, and each one with a great "Ah-ha moment". I would say if you want a book that is tough to put down, this is a great choice.
Trust No One! - Review by Annemarie Beltzer

message 136: by Steven (new)

Steven (tbones) | 592 comments As always, everyone can read whatever they like cause well...who is gonna stop you. However, in this group there are a few options if members want to participate. Between buddy reads, monthly book reads, and other reading format threads, please join in and have fun.

As for this month's read, I put up an entertaining comic volume, and did the same for next month to give people something different. I think you will all be entertained by these and if you choose digital comics, Comixology has these both for sale and on the borrow list for their Unlimited accounts. I believe they offer a free 1 or 2 month trial membership which is totally worth it.

Steven (tbones) | 592 comments I just started a horror anthology and a Halo book but would love to know what people are looking to read for a monthly title? I am going to list the horror book I am reading as a monthly but could change it if a few people have some better ideas.
