Cici The history channel and discovery channel are pretty awesome :)

Steven (tbones) | 592 comments Hey Cici, a micro s'mores maker? I never heard of that. I will have to check those out they asound awesome. My wife also did an Avatar cake for my son's bus driver. It came out pretty awesome. I will definitely have to get you her facebook info.
As for shark week, we have caught quite a few shows on that. Sharks are just awesome creatures. It's definitely a great thing to learn about since it keeps us educated about them and can help reduce the number of attacks if we know more about them and how they act.

message 53: by Cici (new)

Cici My micro smore maker can only make one at a time though but it only takes 10 seconds I'm sure u can just put them on a plate in the mic for 10 sec and it'd do the same thing. Ill try next time. I'm really not a cake eater but I do appreciate artwork and her cakes sound amazing. I only got to watch 4 shows of sharkweek! I've been so busy!

message 54: by Steven (new)

Steven (tbones) | 592 comments Yeah I only got to see a few of the Shark Week shows but hey I got to see my fav. The Ghost Hunters. Last week was a creepy one too.
As for smores, have you been able to find the super giant sized marshmellows anywhere by you? My store got them in this year. They are awesome for roasting at the campfire also

message 55: by Cici (new)

Cici Ok, so we haven't read anything together in a very long time. Anyone have any suggestions??
I was thinking 'the help' sooo many people have suggested this to me saying it was such a great book. So what does everyone think??

message 56: by Steven (new)

Steven (tbones) | 592 comments hey I never heard of The Help and I don't know if I will get to read this groups next read...I'm actually behind on some stuff but if I had to recommend something I would say either Everlost by Neal Shusterman was an amazing read for the Book Freaks group and then if you want something to give you that young kid feeling thing, Candy Shop Wars by Brandon Mull was lots of fun too.
Hope this helps Cici.

message 57: by Cici (new)

Cici I really even shouldn't suggest anything, its really up to you guysa because sooon this baby will be here and I'm sure I won't be doing much reading!!

message 58: by Steven (new)

Steven (tbones) | 592 comments well I definitely wouldn't suggest a cookbook of any kind especially one with cake or cookies in it...come on I know you just wanna smack the crap out of me for that one huh :O) ok really I should over night you some twinkies after that kid shows up huh

Steven, I read "Everlost" I enjoyed it! I'm going to use the "McGill" instead of Nanny McFee to keep the kids in line now!

"The Help" sounds good to me! Anyone third this suggestion?

message 61: by Steven (new)

Steven (tbones) | 592 comments Yeah The McGill is awesome...I need to store one in the closet somewhere...but just so he can jump out and scare the wife sometimes LOL :o) my kids are pretty good but my wife can be bad sometimes ;O)
One of my favorite parts was in the chiming room with the kid that wouldn't stop screaming...very funny :o)

message 62: by Steven (new)

Steven (tbones) | 592 comments Hey did you or Cici see that James Patterson has a group on Goodreads now. Thought you should know and maybe just maybe we can talk him into writing an Alex Cross story where he goes after a sneaky little theif that steals cookies and cakes from a pregnant girl and the girl and Cross team up to put a hurt lock on the punk and squish his twinkies :O)

Hahahahaahahahahaha, Steven. You stop teasing the pregnant woman! It will come back to haunt you . . . Maybe someday they will figure out a way for men to be pregnant and then you will not tease so much! :-)

Jennifer, I already read this last summer and I really liked it, as did many of my work colleagues. I highly suggest it and I would of course chime in on the comments!

message 65: by Cici (new)

Cici So I just ordered my copy of the help and I will receive it next week. I am excited to read it because I have heard so many great things about it! I just don't know how long it will take me to finish it with my new bundle of joy that will be here the week it comes!

message 66: by Steven (new)

Steven (tbones) | 592 comments I don't know if you have picked a title for next months read but I have 2 titles that I highly recommend and think most of you would enjoy big time. Both authors are Goodreads authors and both stories are packed with action and suspense. The first is Power Down by Ben Coes. Talk about a story filled with terrorists and a kickass hero...this badly has blockbuster movie with lots of pirotech stuff written all over it. Then there is The Insider by Reece Hirsch that is totally suspenseful and has just a great fast paced, hard to put down, nail biting quality. Full of action and well written characters.
Hope this helps you in your desicion for Febs read

message 67: by Cici (new)

Cici Those sound great!!! I feel bad I havent even read the dec/jan. read yet :/

message 68: by Steven (new)

Steven (tbones) | 592 comments hey sometimes it's hard to find time within those months for reading let alone with a new addition to the family and being able to eat some junk food again :o)

message 69: by Cici (new)

Cici Steven wrote: "hey sometimes it's hard to find time within those months for reading let alone with a new addition to the family and being able to eat some junk food again :o)"

haha! that is very true! And now I'm trying to shed this baby weight and no more junk food!!! Because it feels impossible to lose this weight!!!
your wifes been posting beautiful cakes on fb!! very talented girl.

message 70: by Steven (new)

Steven (tbones) | 592 comments yeah that junk food is a tough one to get away from especially when you were banned from it for awhile. My doctors got me on meds for cholestorol and high blood pressure so my diet has changed quite a bit and those lovely cakes around the house are sooooo tempting.
Oh, I sent a note to Justin asking about book 2 and I also sent a note to James Rollins about a Q&A on Desperate Book Junkies. We just need to figure out what book of his we might want to read.

message 71: by Cici (new)

Cici Great!!! You're awesome!

message 72: by Steven (new)

Steven (tbones) | 592 comments Ok got some news from Cronin. Book 2 of The Passage, title so far The Twelve, is scheduled around the summer of 2012. He is still working on it. He said he is kind of on the sidelines when it comes to the movie adaption but as of last they are still working on the script.
No news from Rollins yet but the guy seems like a real traveler so he might not get online too much...hopefully we can nab him for some chit chat though.

The twelve, huh? cool! I'm excited to read it, hopefully it will go the way I want it to. I really hope all my fav. characters didnt die :(.
Steven, you should tell him what to write! lol. Ask him what happens for me! J/k I know he wont tell anyways. Maybe he can give us a hint....

Pick one from Rollins, let's just read it. I really liked what I have read of him so far, so I can't imagine he has too many stinkers . . .

message 75: by Steven (new)

Steven (tbones) | 592 comments yeah Cici, Cronin might ban me from his Facebook page if I start telling him how to write his next book :O) but I do agree he writes his characters so well that you get upset when they go bye bye :o( I did give him a few suggestions, when I met him, of things to add into his next book, and I'm hoping maybe it's something we may notice in the next book.
So, as for a Rollins pick, would Amazonia be an ok pick with everyone? I'm kind of a few pages into it already and reading it for this group and chatting about it would be cool.

I'm in. Will download it soonest.

message 77: by Steven (new)

Steven (tbones) | 592 comments I'm not set as a moderator yet someone else will have to put Amazonia up on the group pages monthly read. So far it's a very cool and exciting book.

Cici Steven wrote: "yeah Cici, Cronin might ban me from his Facebook page if I start telling him how to write his next book :O) but I do agree he writes his characters so well that you get upset when they go bye bye :..."

lol! What did you suggest for him to add in his next book? That's so funny! I hope he will!! No hints, huh? Jennifer has to add you in the group I can't.. at least I think I cannot. I'll try. I'd love to read with you guys but I'm not sire if I'll be able to. I have a couple borrowed books I have to read!

message 79: by Cici (new)

Cici Oh! I did it! Yay! Steven, you're in! I have the power!

message 80: by Steven (new)

Steven (tbones) | 592 comments Cool and thank you I will put Amazonia up for this month. When ever you do get a chance to read Amazonia I think you will enjoy it. It's definitely got some trippy science type things going on that make you think a bit.
I am also going to shoot a note to Rollins to let him know we picked his book so if he wants to visit near the end of the month for some chit chat we'd like to have him.
As for the suggestions for Cronin, they were basically enviornmental concepts for his world he created. Which we got on a cool conversation about and I could tell by the look on his face that those creative wheels were spinning so who knows maybe he will surprise us in the next book.

Can we extend the date to read by a little bit? It takes me a bit longer to read a book this time of year. I am a wimp. A busy wimp.

message 82: by [deleted user] (new)

Steven, I hope you don't mind, but I put the topic up in our Group Reads section and also sent out a groupwide message announcing Amazonia for February. I downloaded this tonight and will start when I finish my current book - only 10% left!

message 83: by Steven (new)

Steven (tbones) | 592 comments Hey Jenn thank you for doing that. I knew there was something I was forgeting. See we make a great team :o) And yes we might want to extend the date as it is a short month and I posted it a few days in. If you want to decide between the other moderators what would work for a finishing date that would be great. Any date works for me.

message 84: by Cici (new)

Cici We can do 2 months. I don't think that's too long, we usually read books together every other month or we're supposed to anyways.

message 85: by [deleted user] (new)

Sounds great! I look forward to your posts!

message 86: by Steven (new)

Steven (tbones) | 592 comments Oo two months cool I get to play catch up :o) And maybe play some Silent Hill in the middle ... Silent Hill is creepy awesome...but I wouldn't want to live there.

message 87: by Cici (new)

Cici Did you ever watch the movie? I was disturbed by the end.

message 88: by Steven (new)

Steven (tbones) | 592 comments Oh yeah the movie was pretty cool and was similar to the games. It had the same feel and look which I liked. Yes the end was disturbing but the games will freak you out more. My son can't watch me play the games cause they scare him and give him nightmares.

message 89: by Cici (new)

Cici Steven wrote: "Oh yeah the movie was pretty cool and was similar to the games. It had the same feel and look which I liked. Yes the end was disturbing but the games will freak you out more. My son can't watch me ..."

lol, I played silent hill a long time ago, before the movie came out because I loved Resident Evil and it was similar, I'm pretty sure I beat it, too.It was scary> I couldnt play it at night alone, lol.

message 90: by Steven (new)

Steven (tbones) | 592 comments Wow that's really funny. I am the same way with playing it. I have all the Silent Hill games so far and have to play them at night in the dark to set the mood but I have to play them with someone in the room cause they do creep me out and the games take me a long time to beat cause I procrastinate going into rooms because I am scared of what's going to be in there. And as for Resident Evil...love those games too...pretty much anything with zombies. I am however going to play Mini Ninjas on the X-Box today. It's an awesome game check it out sometime. You can turn into animals and make them make noises that drive your pets bonkers :O) so much fun ...he he he :o)

message 91: by Cici (new)

Cici lol! wow, there are other silent hill games? I've only played the first one. I remember being stuck on one part, searching and searching every inch of the game for days and then turning it on and being like, I know exactly where it is! But I thought I'd looked there like a million times! I think it was right at the beginning too, in the graveyard and again in the hospital. i finally got my 360 sooo i've been trying to play my halo reach. but that takes up too much time right now and the baby doesnt like me doing anything else but giving him my full attention. (he's sleeping, but I'm sure not for long!lol)

message 92: by Steven (new)

Steven (tbones) | 592 comments Ok now that is just too freaky about how you find out where things in the game are. I've shut Silent Hill off after trying to find the key that gets you in the house and through to the school in the first game. Well, it took me going to sleep and dreaming about walking the streets of Silent Hill and finding it in my dream. I woke up, put the game in, and found the key just like that. So Yes I definitely know what you're saying there. Haven't played Halo Reach but my daughter and I have been playing one of the Halo games. They are a riot and so are the Left 4 Dead games. As for the baby, I know all about how that works and yep he takes up the time now but it is totally rewarding and someday your little guy will battle along side you in Halo too :o)

Steven (tbones) | 592 comments You'll have to let me know what other games interest you sometime. Our house is hooked on Plants Vs Zombies right now.
Now I gotta say, our read in this group was awesome. Amazonia was an intense book and I will definitely have to read more Rollins's work. The main bad guy made be think of Beloch from Raiders Of The Lost Ark but a more evil version.
Anyway, I gotta go rewrite my review I think cause it really isn't where I wanted it.

Is amazonia about diease? Are all his books about an outbreak of dieases? I just read the judas strain by him and it is very well written and has a lot of action. Its about an outbreak. I also own the last oracle and maybe sandstorm?? I can't remember. I own all these books I have yet to read but I'm addicted to buying new ones!

message 96: by Steven (new)

Steven (tbones) | 592 comments I don't know this is only the second thing I have read by him but his short story didn't have anything to do with a disease. He also wrote the novelization of Indiana Jones and The Crystal Skulls so I think he goes in other directions. If he has I will find out for you.

Peter Medley | 2 comments The Perfect Deceit

An intriguing and fascinating book on how countries vie against each other to be top dog on the world stage. Spies, double agents, love triangles -- it’s all in a day’s work for super spy Alexey! In today’s interconnected world, this book gives an interesting perspective on how much competition goes on behind the scenes with ambitions and stakes running high. Hearts are broken and for some power is gained.

Illuminating book on the espionage sphere. Lots of mind games involved. Great book with high drama which makes for a perfect summer read!

message 98: by Steven (new)

Steven (tbones) | 592 comments Ya know this does sound like a cool title for maybe August. And it's a recommendation through a member...very cool. I give it a thumb up so we need to get a thumbs up from the other 3 moderators. I will send a note out on this title. Thanks for the info on the book as well :o)

message 99: by Cici (new)

Cici Whatever you guys decide is completely fine with me :)

Steven (tbones) | 592 comments Ok I put The Perfect Deceit up for our August read. So I hope it's cool with everyone. Peter, again thank you for the recommendation :o)
