Shelf #11 ~ 7 May: Happy / humorous -or- Infatuation / 'In Death'Requirement: Choose a book using one of the following options ...
* For Happy, read a "feel good" book (can be a humorous read, a cozy mystery, etc), "happy" in the title or series, or a smiling character on the cover
* For humorous, read a book from either shelf: GR humorous/SOS humor
*For Infatuation, read a book featuring a book boyfriend, written by an author you adore, or featuring a cover you love
* For 'In Death', read a book on the following shelf: GR In Death (yes, this is a nod to all my SOSers who gave me friendly pokes to start this series; for an 'In Death' book to qualify, it must be found on this shelf; if it's a book in the series, but not shelved here, it won't count)

This book is smack dab in the middle of two series with lot of interconnected characters. While I did notice them a lot, it didn't detract me from the story. Initially, the author used "nervous" to describe the FMC A LOT. So much so that it was getting on my nerves but that slowed down. The close to third-act breakup was nonsensical but again, it toned down considerably. I will be reading more this author

This was a better installment in the long running (gosh, 60th) book in the series. The recent books are more like procedural thrillers. I liked this - it had more info on the background of Sommerset. I still cannot believe that this is 60 books long and still going strong.

The third installation in the Arcane Mage series finally shows some progress in the overall plot. Charisma learns Bast is a necromancer. Bast and his gran help Charisma regain her magic. All the other heirs realize she is still alive and their relationships with her start to progress. The resistance moves against Logan, and events spiral from there. Nice world, although it could use a little more explanation. Great characters, especially Bast's crazy Gran. Overall a great read. 4 stars

This is probably my second book of this author and it's fared much better than I expected. It is supposed to humorous and in some of the parts it was. As I expected, there was a third-act breakup due to stupid and out-of-character reasons. But the friendship in the book made it better. I do have to say, the characters are supposed to be in their mid-twenties but it felt more like in the range of 19-21.

How it Fits: a Cozy paranormal mystery
Review: I am really enjoying this series. It is a comfort read for me after reading pretty heavy world building stories this is a great palate refresher.
This story centers around a Christmas market in Oxford and the who is the rightful author of a famous fantasy trilogy. The vampires are busy making Christmas stockings that are a hit. The stall across from them is Bubbles and run by the daughter of a man who claimed he was the author of the trilogy, not his best friend from college. A good mystery. Lucy finally gets a kiss from one of the gents. Wonder who she will end up with Rafe or Ian?

Theodore continues to put his skills and knowledge from his previous life to build his new life in Liechtenstein. His parents saddle him with part of their debt. The war with Ivanov escalates into open conflict, and he manages to anger the prince. In the background, the incursion of shadow creatures is escalating, and the surrounding countries have closed the borders. Plenty of fast-paced action and humor. I love the characters and the world. Can't wait for the next book.

How it Fits: Tagged 1x Paranormal romance
Review: This is the second in the series. The is a paranormal historical mystery cozy read set in colonial Africa - Kenya. The story is about Beatrice Knight who arrived in Kenya and the ghost of her husband also joins her. She is staying with the Stewards who have a daughter - Lilly- close in age to Beatrice. A gentleman Mr Elkhart arrives when the governor comes to visit and Lilly is smitten. Mr Elkhart has a secret as Beatrice soon discovers - he is a paranormal creature called Popobawa - A batman. Beatrice finds out she is part werewolf and witch. She had always thought it was a dog that bit her. A fun read.
hope everyone is having a good weekend. Was a long weekend here last weekend so we went camping. A great time to relax and enjoy the quiet. Off to find a book to fit the next shelf. Looks like a winning shelf for Team 6.

I was anticipating this book for a while - I like a good space opera and want to read more of it. While the characters were ok, the world-building and motivations needed more detail. As always, you have a very efficient crew but we are told that instead of being shown. I'm not sure if I'll continue the series but I will definitely be find more space operas to read. Sirantha Jax still remains my favorite along with Vorkosigan Saga

Review:
I really enjoyed this book. A new to me author. I like the writing style. Cat is a cop who on her first day of work her partner is killed and she didn't save him. She was reassigned to PIG dept. Paranormal Investigations Group. A group of supernaturals called in to investigate paranormal happenings. She is assigned to work with Sawyer. They have great chemistry and the snark is really good. She finds out about her parents history. Downloaded the next one. No cliffhanger.
Rosina I'd forgotten that I'd read that one, I gave it 3.5 stars, back in 2022.Maybe I should do a re-read, you made it sound good :D
Vi, I've got that trilogy but haven't read any of them, sounds like I shouldn't rush them :)
Yeah, I wouldn't rush it at all.. Especially. the latter 2 has declining ratings/reviews. It's not a good sign at all.

Lucy finds a dead gargoyle on pack lands and the next day one of the pack children goes missing. She and Greg work together with their allies to find out who took and pup as well as the other children who are missing. Great world building and characters in this series, and the mysteries are well done. I think it will get even better as Lucy gains some confidence and experience.

Book: The Hook Up by Kristen Callihan
Pages: 400
Date Read: May 6
Rating: 3.5 stars
How it Fits: FMC name Anna Jones contains Ann
Review: Reading a sports NA after a long time. I like Callihan's other works and this was good too. The characters break-up seems contrived as also the resolution of the book. Will be continuing the series.
