Maggie Evans | 8 comments I'm trying to follow the instructions in this link to add an alternate cover edition: https://help.goodreads.com/s/article/...

But I don't see the "Add an Alternate Cover Edition" option that the help article instructs to use. The article says ASINs can't be manually moved and that I'd need to use the ACE tool instead of creating a new edition.

This is the book in question: https://www.goodreads.com/book/show/5...

Is there something I need to do in order to see this option?

Thanks so much!

Scott | 8543 comments If you're not seeing the option, it probably doesn't have an asin or isbn.

Maggie Evans | 8 comments It has an ASIN listed on the book page: B09M2ZGYSB

Do you see the following menu options on the book page?

I see "Add a new edition" and "Combine editions" but not "Add an alternate cover edition." :(

Scott | 8543 comments I am back on the PC now and can see that all three options are available.

How do I see the ACE option myself? Do I need to reach out to Goodreads support for that?

This is what I see:

Scott | 8543 comments As Bill O'Reilly once said "You can't explain that." Yes, I think you should contact support.

Dobby (dobby0390) | 7857 comments As a Goodreads author, you have limited librarian options. It seems that adding an ACE is one of those options not available to you.

You can post your request for an ACE in the "Book Cover Help" folder: https://www.goodreads.com/topic/group...

Is this a new change? Authors could always add their own before.

Are you on the correct edition page? https://www.goodreads.com/book/show/5...

I don't know. I know that authors have what staff have called "limited librarian privileges," but as to what those limitations are, I couldn't say. It sometimes appears that those privileges vary; speculation has been that the author in question had librarian privileges before claiming an author profile, with those privileges carrying over (erroneously or not, who knows).

All the editions have an ISBN or ASIN attached, so it should appear wherever she is.

This the third GR author this month I've seen report they don't have the ACE option in their menu anymore. A bug or unannounced intentional change? neither would be surprising.

Martin | 35198 comments I had no idea about this, things keep changing - so fast I can barely keep up.
I dislike giving out wrong information but if Goodreads don't tell us things what can we do?

gem | 2620 comments I often do updates for an author who can't (couldn't?) do ACEs on their own works (not sure if it's all or just some). This was the case for at least a year or two. Not sure if the option was always unavailable or if it just changed one day.

I instructed them to contact Support for help and they told me, "They did direct me to another way of doing it, and while I haven't tried it yet, it looks like it will work?" That was last Sept and I haven't done an ACE for them since, so presumably the alternate method worked. No clue what it is though or why it's necessary for some authors.
