Drace (dracenines) | 7540 comments So I have no idea why on earth any librarian would do this, but a librarian completely deleted the ISBN-10, ISBN-13, and ASIN from an ebook edition for no reason whatsoever. I'd make some kind of comment along the lines of "Goodreads staff should talk to this person about making edits this flagrantly incorrect," but this person is Goodreads staff.

As a result, the Goodreads bot jumped in and assigned a site-only ASIN to the book. Since not even Goodreads staff can remove ASINs, would it be possible for a Goodreads librarian to create a new ebook edition with the correct ISBNs and then merge the edition that had its ISBNs removed with the new edition with correct ISBNs?

No volunteer, super or otherwise can help you with this. They are not permitted to undo anything a GR employee does.

A new edition with that ISBN cannot be created anyway since it still exists in the database. The employee moved it from the edition you linked to this one -> https://www.goodreads.com/book/show/2...

They appear to have been attempting to create an ACE (via the tool which is what moved the ISBNs/ASIN) but ended up leaving the new edition without a cover and set to Invalid status. The best thing to do in these cases is to flag the incorrect edits to bring them to GR staff attention for review.

Drace (dracenines) | 7540 comments Lately I've been trying to avoid going to staff unless it's a last resort since they've been making more and more of these extremely flagrant editing mistakes lately, so are any librarians (super or otherwise) able to re-validate the invalidated edition and then carry out the merge to get things back to normal?

No, volunteers cannot change the status of a book set by a GR employee. GR staff are the only ones who can fix it.

Drace (dracenines) | 7540 comments Alright. Reaching out to staff to undo their mistake and revalidate the ebook, then I'm going to circle back to this thread afterwards to see if a merge can be carried out.

Drace (dracenines) | 7540 comments Staff restored the edition that they incorrectly marked invalid. Could a superlibrarian please merge it with the invalid duplicate that they also created? The information for the correctly merged edition should match the details laid out in the OP.

I'm afraid we can't help you. The duplicate edition was created by staff, so only they can delete it. As Tal pointed out on the first response "No volunteer, super or otherwise can ... undo anything a GR employee does." If they f*** up, they are the only ones who can fix it.

Alright. I'll pester them again via the contact form as soon as I get the chance and mark the thread as complete/archived.
