First chapter is intriguing and bucolic, I’m having to read carefully or I feel I’ll miss something small but important.

Richard (thinkingbluecountingtwo) | 447 comments Up to chapter six now, and will add mysterious and poetic.

Yeah. It's a lot of vibe but not a lot of plot for me so far (30% in). I don't dislike it, but I'm not in love with it yet either.

Ellen | 940 comments I've made it to 50%. It's pretty slow going.

Edwin Priest | 743 comments Other than ordering the hardback version from the UK on Amazon or Ebay or elsewhere for an exorbitant price, does anyone have any advice about how to get this in the US?

Have you checked Everand? I think someone mentioned it was available there. And how about Audible?
I'm not in the US, just throwing in some options, hoping it might help.

It is not available on those platforms in the US.

Olga Yolgina | 589 comments I'm listening to the audiobook and so far it is slow going. For some reason it takes an enormous amount of effort to keep concentration on the story and connect the events one to another. So far I've been going at the rate of "three chapters forwards, two back", in the sense that I keep going back to relisten. So, only at Chapter Four at the moment, although I was as far as Six at some point, but have only fragmental understanding of what's between now and Six.

No to Everand and Audible. I think I am going to have to pass on this one this month.

I started and the world building around the ghosts is intriguing. Also, I didn't know it was set in Estonia (from what I gather), that's a welcome change.

DivaDiane SM | 3717 comments I haven't started yet, but it's up next on audio (Everand). It'll be a day or two. I was in a bookstore yesterday and decided to order the hardcover, since the people who have started with the book seem to say it's a bit of a challenge on audio, but that it is interesting.

Some more thoughts.
It's slow, but I think that's actually a great way to illustrate how life has slowed down after technology broke down.

I LOVE the concept of how so many internet ghosts go into the forest because a forest is a network itself. As a computer scientist and forest lover, that speaks to me. Also forest creatures becoming more like their fairytale counterparts.
The thought of people being afraid of books and knowledge is very scary.

Overall, I feel there are a lot of very interesting ideas in here.

Also love the Baba Jaga aspect of Katerina's life.

I'm having the same problem, can't seem to find a way to buy the ebook in the US...

There's a way to change your country in kindle/amazon to UK, then you can buy it via your standard kindle account.
