Drace (dracenines) | 7529 comments There are errors to clean up with the book Piercing by Ryū Murakami.

1. US Paperback: Piercing (ISBN 9780143038634)

- Ralph McCarthy needs to be added with the Translator role.

- The page count is incorrect. I’m holding a copy, and it stops at 184.

- The description is incorrect. It should read as follows, transcribed directly from the back cover:

Kawashima Masayuki is a successful graphic designer living in Tokyo with his loving wife, Yoko, and their baby girl. Outwardly, their lives are a picture of happiness and contentment, but every night while his wife sleeps Kawashima creeps from his bed and watches over the baby’s crib with an ice pick in his hand and an almost visceral desire to use it.

One night, as this struggle unfolds once more, Kawashima makes a decision to confront his demons and sets into motion an uncontrollable chain of events seeming to lead inexorably to murder. The follow-up to In the Miso Soup from a cult favorite writer, Piercing confirms Murakami as the master of the psycho thriller—terrifying, sickening, and utterly gripping.

2. US Kindle: Piercing (ASIN B000SEI15O)

- Ralph McCarthy needs to be added with the Translator role.

- The description is incorrect. It should be the same as Entry 1.

3. UK Hardcover: Piercing (ISBN 9780747582205)

Quick heads up: this edition has NSFW cover art.

- Ralph McCarthy needs to be added with the Translator role.

- The publisher is incorrect. According to the title page, it should just be Bloomsbury.

- The publication date is incorrect. According to an archived Amazon page from the year it came out, it should be January 2, 2007: https://web.archive.org/web/200707020...

- The description is incorrect. It should read as follows, transcribed from the jacket:

Kawashima Masayuki is a successful graphic designer living in Tokyo with his loving wife Yoko and their healthy baby girl. Outwardly, their lives are a picture of happiness and contentment.

Every night, however, Kawashima creeps from his bed and watches over the baby’s crib while his wife sleeps. But this is no ordinary domestic scene. As he stands gazing at his little girl, Kawashima has an ice-pick in his hand, and an almost visceral desire to use it.

Kawashima decides to confront his demons, and sets into motion an uncontrollable chain of events seeming to lead inexorably to murder…

The follow-up to In the Miso Soup, Piercing confirms Murakami as the master of the psycho-thriller. Read and be terrified, sickened, and utterly gripped.

4. UK Paperback: Piercing (ISBN 9780747593133)

- The description needs to have the following sentence added in a separate paragraph at the beginning, transcribed from the back cover of the book:

Welcome to Tokyo – the side the tourists don’t see

- “paperback / softback” needs to be removed from the Editions field. The Format field already confirms this is a paperback.

===

5. UK Ebook: Piercing (ISBN 9781408846285)

- The language is missing. It should be English.

===

6. UK Kindle: Piercing (ASIN B00DHIYEZY)

- Ralph McCarthy needs to be added with the Translator role.

Goodreads librarians: if you are unable to correct the issues with #2 and #6 due to the disastrous new policy surrounding Kindle and Audible editions, please let me know so that I can contact staff to inform them that they have to carry out Kindle/Audible edits and inform them of the errors that need to be fixed.
