I was reading House of Names a little while back and liked the beginning but from there it slowed down and I never really connected with any of the main characters or with where the story seemed to be going and I'd keep skipping it to read something else so around the halfway point I just returned it to the library without finishing it.

I also am not a fan of the need to make many childhood characters have smutty retellings as I keep running into that being the major plot point instead of the characters itself.

Same. Also, I want to keep giving it a chance so I will MAKE myself finish it but there's just a chance I might never read it again.🤷♀️

I REALLY hate proofreading errors! However, if the plot is great, I can wade through the trantulas to get to the diamonds. One such book was The 9th Brother by Raven Thorneheart. Spectacular story! A debacle from the publisher that let it be printed the way it was.

Main reasons for abandoning a book are: 1- the main plot's been done too many times before, 2- the protagonist is too dull, 3- the writing is not up to decent human standards 😭🤣 honestly, if I abandon a book it's really REALLY not worth anyone's time.

Agree with you there! I like smutty books when that's what I'm in the mood for but I do need there to be an actual plot or character arc in there. There was a bodyguard one I read a few years ago that had the most non sensical plot and stupidest characters and if I hadn't been waiting for a friend and had anything else to read at the time I would've dropped it.
